My PC and Platinum coming soon...

Well, I'm staring at my car outside the window, gazing at the P21S shimmer. It's a little hot outside, so it almost feels as if the wax wants to melt off the car. I'm hesitant to strip everything, but my next combo should be outstanding. I finally have the PC from coastaltools.com on the way. Couldn't resist also ordering some Klasse AIO, Platinum UPP, a waffle weave towel, and a CCD from premiumautocare.com. I can't wait to try these out when they come in on Thursday.

My plan of attack is to use #9 with a yellow pad (that may not do much, so 3M SMR waits in reserve), then get all the oils off, and head over to polymer country with the AIO + UPP combo. After I get enough UPP coats on (3 maybe), I will top with P21S. Update to come this weekend! (dang, it's only Tuesday).

Are you a mind reader? lol. That's my plan this weekend. Well, with the exception of PC Polishing, and I'm only planning on1 coat of UPP.

William, let's compare notes. It seems like we have the same paint (if you can consider black MB paint from car to car the same), so we might just help one another. I will probably not add the Platinum coats back to back, but maybe with a week inbetween.

Yah that sounds good. I can't visit Autopia as often as before due to peak season at work, but I'll try my best to follow up on this.

I actually did something similar last week on a white IS300. The car was AIO'd & SGX4 with 1 week old P21S topper. I applied UPP directly over without stripping off anything, then topped with P21S again. The result came out nicely but for some reason I like how it looked before without UPP under it. It seems to look "brighter" before but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I should be stripping Zaino off my black w210 this weekend or next week and replace it with AIO/UPP/P21S. Will report result and let me know how it works out for you as well! :xyxthumbs

Update:

Everything for my PC will not arrive until next week, so I'm waiting until next weekend to do the entire car. I turned my trunk lid into a test area of sorts. The left half was to be left as is, #9 + #7 + S100. The right half was to be AIO + UPP.

Well, because I could not dawn wash half the trunk lid (I was too lazy to dawn the entire car and then reapply), I used AIO x 4 on the right side to attempt to get rid of all the wax. I think it did. This was just a mini-test, so I didn't care that I wasn't doing it right. Anyway, after that I applied UPP and waited 30 minutes before taking it off. I used the Platinum gloss enhancer QD on the right side. I love it! Smells really nice. At $15/bottle, I'm not too sure about ordering it.

Basically the shine is a little nicer than S100. It's hard to tell (or maybe I didn't strip correctly :() but I'm ready to give up S100. Why? After a week, the level of slickness on the S100 has dropped dramatically. I washed the panel the next day just to test, and almost all of it was gone. The UPP is even more slick now. The swirls did not get magnified as I feared, so this is a plus.

Once I get my PC equipment in, I'll do a dawn wash, some polishing, and then report back with proper application.

My update

As you probably know from the other thread, I skipped UPP and went straight to 2 coats P21S after AIO, so there's not much to report and this should be my last update.

Since I didn't use UPP, I'll just compare it with Zaino. I had close to 30 coats before then polished it down, then re-applied 11 coats then polished down again. I definitely see a tint on the finish (not sure if it's from AIO or P21S, most likely combination of both) and it is not as reflective as before. I am big fan of Z's optical clearness so in this moment I don't really like what I am seeing now. However, the paint looks deeper and rich and to me it looks like a different car. I've never seen my car so "black" before. Anyway, I'll continue to lay down P21S and I'll probably get used to it and like it, but I'll probably go back to Zaino when I get bored of P21S.
