STUTTGART'S FINEST

I LOVE the Cayman (at least the way it looks), but the problem with the Cayman is that it's right at the Z06 price point. I realize they are different cars, but the Z06 is dollar for dollar the best sports car out there, and it's tough to ignore.
True, the Z06 is one hell of a car! At first, I was thinking of that car as I previously owned a '69 L-88 Vette which was one very sick car in the go-fast-as-hell department.
I like the reviews of the Cayman S and if you equip it with a Sport Chrono pack and add PCCB's you have one killer car that will corner like they quoted " The Cayman feels supernaturally responsive, as if the mechanical package were shrink-wrapped around you" "It slashes through corners as if it were a hologram from Gran Turismo 4." Get the Sport Chrono package and it will lap as fast as a stock 911S and yet cost less than a stock Carrera. Add PCCB's and you have the best mid-engine sport car that will out-corner just about everything else.
The Z06 is blasing fast, handles well, but just seems cheap in the interior department. Besides, everyone is trying to out pace a 911 at the 'Ring' and the Z06 made one very quick lap there, but it took suspension modifications, engine re-mapping and a very skilled driver to lap as close to a Carrera GT. See this article in Winding Road "Fast, yes. Fun, sure. But if you're considering the Z06 — and it's not about the money — might we also suggest the Ferrari F430, Dodge Viper SRT10, Porsche Carrera S, and Mitsubishi Evo IX MR. Now which would you choose?"Winding Road Z06
Here's another quote from Winding Road "Unfortunately, a massive motor is about all the Corvette has. Though its chassis and steering are competent and supercar-bothering
grip is on tap, by comparison with the Carrera the Z06’s complete lack of feel seems terribly uninvolving. The Z06
is for engine people, the Carrera for chassis people, but in the end, for me, Porsche still makes the more coherent package."
The Z06 for the buck is hands down a great car for what you pay! For the money you can't go wrong.
It boils down to do you want to go fast straight and have moderate cornering or do you want to slash through corners?
Porsche was so concerned about the Cayman eating into 911 profits, they de-tuned it so to speak. The Cayman gets 911 heads, 911S vario-cam. In time, with a good ECU re-map, this thing could go fast as hell!
I just wish the X51 package (Power Kit) wasn't so damn expensive! I'll wait to see what shows up in ECU re-mappings and other tricks as the 3.8 engine is still young. Let's also hope I do not get a RMS failure as some of the 3.6 has. RMS=Rear Main Seal. Early 3.6 engines were effected by this.
I asked the dealer to have Porsche install Michellin PS/2's instead of some of the other tires I see they come with. I'm also trying to get them to get pictures of it as it's being built! :think2
Aril/May just can't get here quick enough! I may have to go back to the dealer and play with that 911S that has the Sport Exhaust just to hear it! If I get a good dry day, I'm off to drive it again! Demo car does not have PCCB's or short shifter, but who cares now? :woot2:
I'll kick myself for getting black, but Porsche black just looks so nice! Now to keep all the crap off it! :waxing:
I promise as soon as I hear more as to shipment or build and can post pics, you know I'll have them up!!
