My New Fav Wax

I guess they only accept less than $15 if you order more than one can, eh? Anyways, used up the offers and bought 1 can with BIN. If i like it as much as you guys seem to i'll order more. If i don't i'll kick myself for buying yet another can that will waste away on the shelf with all my other cans of money down the toilet. :D

I read in a post above saying due to government regulations its not available anymore. This may be spelled out elsewhere and I just havent seen it, but does anybody know why its banned?

I bought a tin of #16, too, but haven't received it yet. Having heard so much about the product, I'm dying to try it. For my own edification, is #16 a 'nuba, a polymer-based LSP, or a combination of the two?

I'd say it's a 'nuba. It's *definitely* an old-school wax, basically unchanged since it came out in the mid-late 1950s. That's one of the funny things about it...why is it so durable :nixweiss

Well I must say I've had this wax on for a few days all rain so far but I have noted that the beading on this stuff is SWEET. My car will be parked for hours and when I drive off and get up to about 25 all the beads fly off its sweet, I think the only other product I have seen do better was FMJ. I love this stuff...

Yep, that's for sure. As soon as the beading changes, I'd reapply. It's not really *necessary* at that point, but it keeps you ahead of the curve.

#16 arrived today. It was pudding-like, so I remelted it as per the MOL link. Is #16 typically a very hard product like 1000P and 3M wax, or does it have a slightly softer consistency with some give to the touch?

I bought 2 1 came solid and the other pudding liquid, I just put it into the fridge overnight and now solid............no problems

Just a bit after my last post i went to the mailbox and it was here. Pudding, but i tried it anyways. I can now understand why you guys re-melt it, but it does seem to work fine like this. i will re-melt it tonite tho. As to the results....very good. I'm not a detailing freak like most here, and i mainly try products for my bike and on my car i'll use any old thing. Cars my transportation, bike is my baby :) In any case, it looks better than any of the waxes i've tried on it so far, tho it didn't drop my jaw. But better is good. Now if it's as durable as you guys say it'll be that much better.

Now a few questions....can this stuff be layered? Is it NOS or do they still make it?

#16 does not contain cleaners, so I suppose it can be layered, at least to the extent that any carnauba wax can be layered. My guess is that a second coat would be beneficial, but I wouldn't waste time and product applying a third coat. But I'm sure Accumulator has some #16 wisdom to share about this. :)

My new ebay tin of M16 also arrived in pudding-condition. I put the tin in the refrigerator for twelve hours earlier in the week and then let it sit for several days. I just opened it to see what it was like. No real change. The stuff is just soft. Not too soft but I can stick my finger into the wax and touch the bottom of the tin. It can no longer be considered a "hard" wax.

We just need to acknowledge that our tins of #16 are defective. Perhaps they were exposed to excessive heat for too long a period of time. I won't say we've been snookered, as I don't believe the seller knew the condition of the wax, but we should have known the bargain was too good to be true. Fortunately, I only bought one tin and only lost $8 bucks. But those of you who purchased 353 tins ... well ... I suppose we have learned a couple of important lessons--caveat emptor ... mundus vult decipi ... tanstaafl.

I guess there's no way to know whether the performance of the wax has been affected, except by using it. But that will have to wait until next year. I'm not going to chance this tin of M16 for my winter wax. I'm trying to decide whether just to toss it.
