My new detail shop!

hi-def and high definition are two different companies/names, so I would think it would be ok, right??? kind of like super shine and superior shine...I might be off, but that is just my thinking on it...

But I agree - more lights, and more in the waiting area, especially if that 60 min express detail takes off for you and you have 10 people waiting in line with only 4 employees working on the cars! (just and example) - TV, wireless internet, bathroom, magazines, artwork, "did you know" pamphlets, etc! You want to make them feel at home

I'm not sure. It's not my trademark property, so I'm not sure how they'd feel. That's why I suggested he contact them before a conflict arises. I know of several companies in this business that have had names that were only slightly similar that were forced to change their business or product name... at great expense, I might add.

A few years back I received a cease and desist letter from the makers of P21S because I created a product with a name that began with a letter, had a two digit number in the middle, and ended in a letter. Were they in the right, or in the wrong? Their point of view is that my choice of product names would "confuse the market".

I think this confuses the market and the holder of a registered mark has rights. :wavey

The space is looking good. I agree some more warming elements in the waiting room. In addition, get rid of that flash on the website. I have a couple website suggestions if you want to shoot me a pm.

In regards to trademarks etc., that company (3-D international) would have to go after him in court and prove that this business name is confusing 3-D's potential customers, which is probably not likely. Having the registered trademark is less important than having the right of usage; which basically says that whichever company has the name the longest has the 'right of usage', regardless of whether it is registered or not. I recently go this information from a international trademark attorney BTW.

Thanks for all the great feedback and moral support. Just to clarify a few things. Our "Ultra Lounge" features free WiFi, complimentary beverages, 42" High Definition Television with DirecTV. I failed to include those pics in the previous posts.

As far as the rug and coffee table goes, I have been arguing with my interior designer (wifey) and she hasn't found a complimentary set as of yet so I haven't put them in yet. :)

Because I am very particular about my brands image, finding the right posters have been hard. I've literally looked at hundreds of them and still haven't found the right ones to go the red couch. Whatever direction I go in will continue our theme of Drive In Hi Definition.

The trademark stuff...I won't put all my business out there but I'm not threatened.

Here's a few more pics.

@ Jake,

I don't like to divulge to much financial information - but to be honest with you I got a good deal on the lease. The part of Dallas we are located in is considered the high rent district. But the shop needed A LOT of TLC when I got it so I was able to negotiate a reasonable rate . I put a lot sweat equity into remodeling the space.

I believe in keeping my credit rating solid, so when it came time to bootstrap the operation I was able to dip into my personal reserves. The bottomline is that the Lord answers prayers. But first you have to ask for your blessing. I asked for mine and I received much more than I asked for.

Amen.

Completly understand on that stance. It a good set up. What most of us hope to achieve after a few years in the biz. You get the chance to start out like that. All good workings of a succesful business model.

Good luck in the new shop! If you've been doing this on the side for years, it is nothing new... and I'm sure you'll do well!
