My M105 Experience

Finally gotten a bottle of M105 to try out. Many thanks to fellow Meguiar's Malaysia forummer KC for splitting the 1 gallon bottle with me.

So much has been said about the cutting and finishing ability of M105 so I was looking forward to trying it out.

On with the review:

Washing the car with NXT Car Wash. (Note the lack of a second bucket. I prefer to hose off the wash mitt instead of using another bucket as I feel the second bucket tends to get quite dirty and it seemed easier to just hose it off.):

Clay after one section of the hood:

Drying the car with the Water Magnet:

Taping off for the test:

Lots of swirls and scratches (it was quite a challenge to capture these on a white car):

Priming the Pad with the KBM method:

The M105 + W7006 Cutting Pad. Still some visible swirls:

The M105 with W7006 didn't do much. Result with M105 + Solo Light Wool Cutting Pad:

The Solo Light Wool Pad still left some swirls so on with the Solo Heavy Wool Cutting. Result!!! Substantially less swirls:

Followed up the M105 with M80 and NXT Tech Wax 2.0.

Got done quite late at night but managed to take some shots of the car before calling it a day.

Thanks for looking. Comments are always welcome.

Very nicely done!

Man, that must have been some seriously trashed paint to require two applications with wool and one with cutting foam! The result sure looks nice, though.

.

seech- That turned out nice, and good job of capturing the marring in your pics :xyxthumbs

Were all three tests done on the same area? I'm wondering if that made the marring less severe each time.

Did the heavy-cut wool leave much micromarring?

It can be funny how that hard BMW paint responds to different pads/products. With the stuff I used on mine the 7006 cut *better* than my aggressive wool pads (edge brand) for some reason, must've just been one of those pad/product combos that really works (this was before I got M105).

That's the vintage of BMW with very hard clear. I had to *hammer* my M3 even with 3M ECC/wool...a lot harder than seech did on that one even though it didn't look all *that* bad.

Thanks for the comments.

The paint was actually heavily swirled with lots of RIDS as well. Previous attempts at correction with 80, 83 and 86 didn't do anything so wanted to try out 105. (Was going to give wetsanding a try....) It was a bit difficult to capture on white paint so it actually looked a lot worse in person than in the pictures.

Actually did three test spots as I was unfamiliar with the 105. Started with 7006 but that didn't do anything at all. So switched to the Light wool pad and noted some improvements. Went to the heavy wool and finally started seeing some improvement. Two passes and most of the swirls and scratches were gone. The finish was surprisingly good (then again could have been due to the white paint) but decided to follow up with 80 + 8006 and topped with NXT Tech Wax 2.0.

I thought the KB method involved saturating the pad with 105 and the use of a PC??

In the strictest sense you are right. I just tried priming the pads with 105 with the KBM. Shouldn't have applied product to the pad and then spread it out as it left areas with a lot of product. Next time will try applying the product to my hands first and then spreading it.

mmm Must be my screen here because I'm looking high and low at those before pics and I don't see even a single swirl mark... The paint looks perfect on my screen. mmm??? Odd.. But as long as you're happy with the results is really the only thing that matters.

Great job. Very well done. I've had similar experience with my White '07 F150 in attempting to "de-swirl" it after I bought it slightly used. Though I'm using a Cyclo, I found that not much worked very well at all (M80, M83, OP, OC) until I tried M95 with orange pads on the Cyclo. Results at last. The serious swirling for the most part was erased. I would like to try the newer "DA" friendly M105 though.

Must get a black car, must get a black car, must get a black car......

I must be blind. I didn't see one swirl on your car before you started. All I saw was blue sky and a palm tree. I thought from the angle of your pic, the hood looked nice when I saw the tape on it.

I see the marring in most, but not all of the pics, including the one showing the "after 7006" results. I haven't even calibrated this monitor properly :D

Look right around the reflection of the flashlight.

carlsson- You might want to try the cyclo/edge wool pads sometime, they work better with M105 than the did with the products I'd tried previously.

Accumulator. Yes there were still visible defects after W7006 and the light wool pad. As you said, if you look closely they can still be seen.

Must get a black car, must get a black car....... heh heh heh..

Heh heh, while *I* can't resist  I can assure you that that particular mindset will serve you well here at Autopia :D

BTW, that particular BMW looks great in white (well, IMO), and that's more than I can say about a lot of cars.

TQ. I do like it white also. It's just difficult to see the defects... maybe a good thing after all. hahahaahh....
