My LC pads are ripping around the velcro.

The Meguiars pads, as I underatand, are really made for a rotary. I 've been using a maroon Megs pad as my cutting pad during my rotary practice and I've been getting really great results :up. I'm assuming I'm going to need a wool pad to get out acid rain etching, if possible, though

Oh well guys/gals...

I stand corrected. Mr. Meguiar himself (Mike Phillips) has spoken. :D

It does not look like LC manufactures Meguiar's foam pads.

I'm sorry if I had giving you second hand information which now seems to have been incorrect.

Please accept my apologise.

With Aloha,

Ranney :)

Hmm.. would be an interesting comparison to pit the Meg pads against their flat LC equivalents though ;)

Most of the time I'm running around 5 and I'll bump it up to 6 in bad spots that I think will help remove the marring. So I'm not running the PC at 6 for great amounts of time.

Were I bought them has not seen this problem but has offered to exchange them if I so desire.

The LC advanced variable contact pads (or whatever they call the 7" pads) seem to have a better solution for the velcro attachment. The velco is in sort of a recessed plastic 'cup' that is somehow bonded to the foam. This has 2 added bonuses, first the 'cup' seems really secure and I've had no pulling, tearing or ripping from the foam (both yellow and white) after about a dozen uses/washes. I usually soak them in dawn and water for 20=30 minutes, rinse and air dry but I had one that was about worn out so I decided to machine wash it just to see what happened and the velcro 'cup' was still intact (though the foam looked even worse). Second, the cup keeps the backing plate recessed and away from the paint surface.

I have some of the Sonus pads on the way so I'll be looking forward to doing some comparisons.

Edit: I use a PC usually from 4-6 and some pressure with no problems.

If pad manufacturers would extend the velcro all the way to the edge of the pad, the foam getting torn up wouldn't be an issue, IMO. I get my yellow and white pads locally from Hi-Temp, and I believe theirs are privately branded Buff & Shine pads. The velcro extends to the pad's edge, and I get a great deal of use from the pads before the velcro backing ever becomes an issue, and I regularly use 6 on the PC.

The orange power pads from CMA that I tried fell apart just as others have described above (velcro doesn't go to the edge of the pad).

Exactly, seems like an easy fix. Eventually I guess.....

Lake Country does not manufacture our foam pads.

Also,

Meguiar's does not recommend using our foam pads on the 6.0 setting. The oscillating action, heat and product penetration all working together will break down the bond between the Velcro and the foam over time, be it our foam pads or anyone's foam pads. It's just too much to expect out of the foam pad.

The 6.0 setting is just a little on the violent side for long term foam pad usage.

Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for taking the time to respond.

I'm sorry, but if you sell me a pad that is going to be used on a Porter Cable DA polisher, I expect to be able to use it.

If it can't be used under all conditions that the PC will create, I think that it is up to you to tell me this before I fork out my hard earned cash.

I love your products, but you're not getting any points on this one.
