My initial NXT review

Other than those few minor flaws, its the best thing Ive ever used...

Slickness will decline with any product quicker than anything else in any product it seems.

But you state it's the best...thing...that you have used? What have you used that's shine is considerably less in less than 2 weeks then when you first applied it?

Any reason why you did not use the #00 wash?

Yeah, 'cause it isn't the Aurora! :D

That's actually part of it, but also a bigger part is that I have a gallon of GC to use up, it's a perfectly fine car wash, and also in my opinion it is a better cleaner than #00. The Regal is currently housed outside, and is driven daily. So it gets a lot dirtier than the Aurora does.

I find that Gold Class is a better cleaner than #00. What I love about #00 is that it is soo mild, which makes it perfect on a car that is lightly dirty. But it also makes it less effective on a car that is really disgusting (not that you couldn't still use it or anything). I think the Gold Class works better than #00 when the car is real dirty.

Now that we have the Regal, I can drive the sissy Nissan on crummy days and keep the Aurora in the garage (though it is still driven in winter and such because it's such a joy to drive and so competent, but it does get respite from the salt). So now I can use #00 all the time on the Aurora. But when the Aurora was really dirty, I'd usually use Gold Class or Blackfire's car wash since they seem to have more bite to them than #00 does. When the car is just dusty or lightly dirty, #00 is perfect to use and I think it iis gentler on the protectant since it is a milder product. I also like that #00 doesn't leave "conditioners" behind to add gloss and such. It just cleans it and that's that. It seems to make it rinse off better too, I don't notice that rainbow effect from #00 and never have had problems with streaking. I can use Final Detail for that extra gloss and pop and beading after a wash with #00. But I dont' really QD the Regal or Nissan much, so the gloss adders of Gold Class are fine. I mean, I'd be fine without them (to tell the truth, I really don't notice any extra gloss or anything, just more rainbow effect and a higher possibility of streaking with those types of shampoos), but I don't mind that it has them when washing the non-Auroras.

And in reality, the differences are hardly large, just some small differences that make each better suited to different tasks, and it could just be all in my head... :dance

This is also basically the same reason that I use #36 on the wheels of the Aurora, but E1 A2Z on the wheels of the other cars. Though that is definitely not in my head. You can spray some A2Z on your hand and some #36 on your hand and I think the difference will be quite apparent... ;)

Excellent review Aurora! Just a thought here............ Could it be possible that the "overdose" of car wash could have stripped some/much of the product. I've found using GC wash in the past that it can do that with carnauba. Could it strip NXT........... who knows?

Thanks for the response Bob. I thought was the only person that used different shampoos for different vehicles because of their exposure to the elements and the severity of the grime. Same with the wheels. The Z28 and classics only car shampoo. The LS400 and Escort get an APC. :bow

On this, I also sincerely hope not. I used two capfuls of Gold Class (the 16oz bottle cap, not the gallon bottle cap) in the wash bucket, which was ~1.5 gallons of water, probably closer to 1.75 gallons this time. Then I filled the cap up about 1/2 way and rinsed it around in the rinse bucket (which had probably 2-2.5 gallons of water). It wasn't an obscene amount of car wash or anything. Just more than I usually use (I usually use one capful of GC, sometimes 1.5 if the car is pretty dirty in 1.5 gallons of wash water), and as I said sort of too much since it was streaking a fair amount with the sun.

For comparison, my wash water must not be too hard because one capful in 1.5 gallons of water is usually absurdly sudsy and plenty slick. I usually use 1.5 capfuls of #00 in the same amount of water (which is only reasonably sudsy after a blast from the Ultimate Nozzle, otherwise it is pretty non-sudsy but incredibly slick).

P.S. Edwin, I think you'd like #36. It has a pH of 7.0 according to the MSDS. All Meguiar's carwashes have a pH of 8.5 (though they also get diluted a ton for use which would probably bring that pH down to about 7 anyway, whereas #36 is uses as-is). It really is a very gentle product that is effective on wheel-type crud. ;)

Thanks Bob. You know me and I can not resist trying something new ( to me). Still have some Z7 and 1Z to use up. :D This spring I will probably try both the #00 and #36 for this detailing season.

To me that sounds like more than the usually reccomended amount of 1oz per gallon. I think  those capfulls tend to be about 1.5 oz, but it depends on the bottle.

I bought a cheap ($0.75) plastic measuring cup at walmart. Keeps me from overdosing on the soap. Also make dilutions easier.

When I see the Regal when leaving for work or coming home, it does actually look pretty glossy. Maybe not quite as glossy as when first applied, but much glossier than MPPP looks. Given the smoothness and the gloss, I think the NXT is still very much there. Perhaps the shampoo made it not bead, or perhaps NXT doesn't bead worth a crap, but the car still looks good. Granted, it's been less than a month, so it still ought to look good...

txz28, I would bet the cap is actually less than a full ounce rather than more than one. I'll have to see what it's like the next time I wash it.

Scottwax or anyone.. Do you have a pic of NXT with water on it? I'd like to see how it reacts so i can get a better pic in my head.

I'll try to remember to take one on Wednesday so you can see how NXT beads, then sheets when you wash with the NXT Wash.

For me, NXT beads after the first week. You can see the cut-off...

Then the beads get larger, and then it sheets like normal paint after 4 weeks.

I would have to agree with this. For me, the slickness was still there, but the water definitely sheeted.

Dirty paint prewash, 4 weeks out. Right side(passenger side) of the hood has been untouched since initial application

After a wash and the NXT suds have been rinsed away(I realize the soap probably affected this).

After 3.5 weeks of using NXT:

panel1_beadsa.jpg

The larger section (left) was treated with NXT while the smaller section (right) was left bare. There's water on that panel, but you can't see any beads... It didn't really sheet - just stuck there.

Compare it to another product:

panel4_beadsa.jpg

The left side was left bare, while the right side was treated with Z5, and again, this photo was taken at 3.5 weeks, just like the NXT.

Just my $0.0005...

HMMM i use s100 carnuba which isn't known for it's durability but after 4 weeks of my car sitting out side and being washed 3-5 times it still beads. Definatly doesn't sheet like that.
