My "Gun Ban" Rant....

I think this story highlights the gap between each viewpoint and can greatly blur either argument. Curious to know thoughts on this.

Parenting.com: My Husband Wants a Gun Even Though Our Son Is on Psychiatric Meds

Thanks for the link, interesting read for sure.

There is no easy answer for this woman but from my view I say she is being the jerk (in reply to a Huffington Post readers calling the husband a "jerk"). She has most likely never held nor shot a gun. She gives her son huge accolades for being so bright, creative and smart yet calls him "mental" when it comes to the issue of a gun.

If she is SO concerned about his reaction to a gun then why in the frickin hell is the kid allowed to play violent games?? "Well I know he is killing people in these games but at least it's pretend and not a real gun....O here son, take your meds please"

I say that her, her husband and son go to a range. Rent several guns before they buy and then talk about it like adults. Let the kid shoot a real gun and explain to him that this is REAL! There is no "re-spawn" in real life. Guns can be used for great harm and great good, we son choose to use a gun for great good. To protect the home, your mom and you.

Then when at home keep it locked away BUT never keep the gun from the kid as this makes the kid even more curious about it. Heck, after the kid shoots a real gun, feels the recoil, the blast, and noise he may not want to fire another one. On the other hand the wife may love it.

She berates her husband like he is a big sissy.....that right there would tick me off, hell I'm feeling for the guy and his manhood after reading that.

Lastly, Huffington Post is so far left leaning in it's views she will get mainly replies that say...."Shame on your uncaring and unloving husband, is he stupid?" I signed up on Huffington Post a few weeks ago and shared my views on one story......ONE post I had and was then kindly banned!! I never used harsh language, never was rude but only replied to a gun story they posted up and my account deleted after ONE friggin post. No warning, no Email and to why. So they can suck the end of my gun barrel.

Big Brother trained me to carry an automatic assault rifle. Ill be damned if they take my rights as a civilian. Most people in the US are to stupid to understand there rights let alone practice them

Now that the truth is coming out will the anti-gun crowd back off. I doubt it.

A assault style weapon never was used at Sandy Hook School. Wonder why the government was so slow in releasing this information ? We know they don't have a agenda. hahaha.

Today Show - no rifles used in Newtown shooting. - YouTube

Hmm... I thought reports said it WAS used, after initially saying he left it in the trunk of his mom's car? Guess they changed their reporting again.

All I can say is... If you've never owned a gun and been taught how to properly shoot and handle a gun.... but think they should make owning guns illegal, well then you have no room to talk on this issue of gun control. Because you know no knowledge or experience of guns at all.

I agree the issue isn't guns, but who is using the guns. It's not your law abiding citizen that is the problem, it's your criminals that are. Focus on the people committing the crimes. If business owners would hold up banners giving CHL holders a 5-10% discount for coming into their store, that's like free security, who in their right mind would really think about robbing that place?

I don't think everyone should own a gun, some people just aren't comfortable with them and that's perfectly fine, but those who want to and are willing to learn, arm them and let them be armed. Fact is, if there are a group of armed people vs. unarmed; who's the more vulnerable target. Yes I know it's a little more complicated than a simple statement. But there seems to be more bad guys then good guys right now. Let those who want to take a stand for themselves do so, but in an orderly fashion.

TO ALL INTERESTED.....

Yesterday was National Gun Day where gun owners were encouraged to go to their state capitol and/or gun store/range and show support for the 2nd Amendment.

If you missed this event and wish to show your support there is another "Gun Day" being held on Feb. 8th. So I encourage everyone to get behind this and show your support. Either go to your state capitol or load up your guns and ammo and shoot some down range. Go to your local gun/sporting goods store and buy a new gun...some ammo. Good luck getting an AR-15 though...haha, at least a 6 to 8 month wait!!

On CBS News: Two separate incidents this weekend of people accidentally shooting others at Gun Shows. Hmmmm.

Yeah, saw one was down in NC. Funny thing is, police that are constantly trained and "tested" are 1200 times more likely to shoot themselves accidentally than a regular schlep.

Does anyone find it strange that CBS jumped all over the gun show shootings this week but say nothing when a gun owner thwarts a crime be it robbery, burglary or what ever ?

Can someone explain how the executive orders would have prevented the school shootings in Sandy Hook (other than mental health info)?

Why are we banning certain rifles then?

AR15s are just cool looking guns.......they are no different than other semi-automatic rifles. I have a 50 year old .22 I bought as a kid; it has a gorgeous wood stock and handguards and a 25 round tube feeder. My AR15 has plastic cool looking handles and holds 30 rounds. How are they different if shooting kids in a "gun free zone" where there is no possible resistance?

The "assault rifle" ban because of the appearance of the guns is like banning bicycles because some kids with banana seats, plastic cool fenders with flames on them and streamers on their handlebars beat up kids at grammar school. Their bikes had no causal relationship to causing the attacks.

Exactly!

I've been to a show once or twice where some ignorant moron dropped a bullet in a gun then walked off. After a bit of time sure enough someone comes along and "dry fires" the gun but this time it goes BANG!

So we have a long list of STUPID going on here. Someone is dumb enough and careless enough to drop a bullet in a gun, then some other person picks up a gun and does not check to see if it's loaded. ALWAYS handle a gun as if it's loaded.

Most guns on display are supposed to be ziptied so as the actions can't be worked.

But as you noted leave it to the wonderful watchdogs of our NEVER biased news organizations to report the news fairly. One guy stops a crime with a gun, one guy commits a crime with a gun which one gets the news? When one looks at the stats, which I believe show that guns used for defense against crime happen something like 60% more then guns used in crimes and to only report the bad is, in my opinion very biased.

As I stated earlier, there is nothing......nothing in the Presidents proposals that go after the criminal. He only seeks to limit and control law abiding citizens. Chicago is just piling up the bodies....job security for the medical examiners there. Hey if anyone in New York wishes to save money on taxes and keep your guns you're welcome in Texas!

We just had somebody injured by a negligent discharge at a gunshow here in Ohio  A *dealer* at a gunshow had just bought the piece; he removed the magazine, failed to check the chamber, put his finger on the trigger, and you can guess the rest. Yeah, a *FFL-holding dealer* popped off a round at a show and the ricochet (at least he was pointing it at the floor) hit his buddy in the leg.

I wish those were punished more seriously, maybe even as severely as "intentional" shootings, especially when LEOs do 'em (we had a cop "accidentally" shoot a fleeing suspect here last year, apparently he was running with his finger on the trigger).

There's just NO EXCUSE for this kind of [crap] and it just gives (downright reasonable) fuel to the anti-gun faction. If you fire a gun unintentionally IMO you simply have no business being around them.

OK, end of rant.. Can you tell I have strong feelings on this issue?

The dealer should lose their license/business at the very least, just that simple.

That cop should lose his job at the very least, just that simple.

100% agreed. I don't care if you're pro-gun or anti-gun, negligent misconduct is unacceptable especially where it concerns a potentially deadly weapon.

Double ditto!!

I'd even put him on a "not permitted to own firearms" list, same as a felon.

It got swept under the rug, as if "hey, [stuff] happens! don't run from cops!"-type excuses made it all OK. The victim was....uhm....the kind of person who...uhm, well..let's just say that legal repercussions were/are unlikely. Gee, where are all the liberal legal sharks when stuff like *this* happens?!?

.. negligent misconduct is unacceptable especially where it concerns a potentially deadly weapon.

Right :xyxthumbs Ditto for animals, cars, all sorts of potentially deadly stuff.

[INSERT same ol' personal responsibility lecture here]

But if people *were* responsible, we might not need the nanny-state, huh? Wonder just how popular that would really be

As I read it, she didn't intentionally give the kid the gun (she forgot it was in the bag). No, no, I'm not in any way saying that makes it OK, just pointing out that the article was written in a heavily biased manner by somebody who obviously knows very little about firearms ("extra gun bullets" ).

IMO that sort of carelessless makes her unfit to a) own firearms and b) raise children. Not sure how you legislate such stuff :nixweiss Heh heh, guess I don't have all the answers either ;)

Ya know, back in the day, kids would take firearms to school with them in the morning as they were gonna be hunting (as in, for their family's food) later in the day with no time before nightfall to run home and get the gun later. But I guess that was back before shooting people was what firearms were all about.

So why didn't a second-grader know how to behave when he found that stuff in his bag? Yeah, I do remember being that age, but I guess I had a...uhm...different sort of upbringing.

Yea, the guns were probably laying on the kitchen table, next to the Fruit Loops. Happens to me all the time. ;)

Biased reporting? Maybe, but it doesn't make dopes like Mom any less qualified for a future Darwin Award. :)
