My freshly detailed 540

I spent about 7 hours today detailing the exterior of my 540. I have detailed a car every day this week an was exhasuted from the start, but I knew I ahd to do it. I had some swirls and light scratches that I went after with some megs #83 followed up with #80 and AIO and topped off with some S100. I was going to use Zaino, but by the time I was ready for it was late and I was way too tired. Besides, when S100 is the fall back wax you can't really complain. Now for the pics!

Future plans include angel eyes (in the mail), updated Celis tails, M5 front bumper (possibly full body kit if funding permits), and ultimately some kind of 18 or 19" wheels when the current tires go bald.

Um wow, simply gorgeous! Your upgrades sound great, not sure if you need the body mods as the 540 looks great the way it is. The S100 did a wonderful job, do you usually put a sealant under it first?

Well, AIO does have some sealants, but I was really planning on using Zaino today. The compounding took forever so I just decided to throw some S100 on there. I'll probably redo in 2-3 weeks, so it doesn't really matter to me if there is any sealant under the s100.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate the front bumper. lol. The m5 one is such a a huge improvement IMO.

Eric, I'm well aquainted with AIO properties but wouldn't say it has that much protection. I can see if you were going to use Zaino why you didn't use anything else. I do like the M5 bumper but yours looks ok. Great work, let's see your work again after you get to do your full treatment.

20" wheels with deeper dished rears for a complete Euro look !!! 19 if you MUST

Definite no go on the 20's. Way too much bling for this car. I think I will end up with 19's, though 18's look pretty good too. I love the look of deep dished rims and am definitely considering something along those lines. At the moment, I am thinking of acs type III's, axis penta's, or hamann hm2's. There are many other wheels i would consider, but these are just a few off the top of my head I have always liked. Wheels really are a pretty distant mod.

Your paint looks amazing!

Thanks! To be honest though, I wouldn't mind letting you have a go at it to remove those final swirls and scratches I coudn't get out. Sooner or later I am sure I will get it down seeing how this was just my first go at compounding.

Judging from your pics, I'm not so sure I can make it look any better.

Your car looks great! I also have a Jet Black BMW (M3 in my case), and I am learning to live with some paint imperfections as perfection only last a few minutes anyway. A few days ago I detailed using Speed Glaze directly followed by Souveran Paste. I usually use AIO before Souveran, but skippped it and the results are very good. I ordered the RMG (machine glaze by Clearkote), which I am planning to use to hide minor iimperfections rather than trying to constantly polish them out.

Again, very impressive detail. Scottwax quality is a goal that I doubt I will attain in this lifetime.

NICE work on the Bimmer. I have always loved the 540's. I think the reason you were too tired for the Z was the job you did on the wheels. They look great. I tried to get my dad to get a 6 speed 540i a while back, but he didnt. :(

The bigger the rim , the lower pro the tire so they end up being the same size as 19's anyways .

duh

are you on crack? that's like saying 15's look the same as 20's because the overall diameter is the same. sure, it may be spot on or pretty close, but there is a drastically different look, not to mention performance loss

duh
