My First Nascar Race

This past weekend one of my Z buddies and his wife, who are avid Nascar fans, traveled down for the AAA 400 Nascar Race at Dover, Delaware. This was my first Nascar race and I must say that it was pretty awesome. :bigups

To start, I have never really been into Nascar but I can easily see how it is the #1 spectator sport in America. The whole experience was pretty overwhelming. Just to walk through the RV section and see some of the setups that some folks have for the race is pretty amazing. Guys with 37 inch TV's outside their RV's !!!!!

The party atmosphere was really fun. People trading off different things while tailgating, meeting new people, and just having fun. There were people that did some serious traveling to this event. I must say that Nascar folks are some of the friendliest people I have met. Even with the intense amount of alcohol that was consumed I saw no fights or any issues at all.

The race itself was pretty intense. My seats were in Turn #1 right as the cars came out of Pit Row. I was 3 rows from the track and ear plugs were a must. I think I still smell like exhaust lol. It was a huge rush as the cars started the race and came into turn #1 at about 158 mph.

There was one wicked crash halfway through the race and the driver ended up rolling his car about 7 times but came out like nothing happened. It just goes to show you the advances in Nascar safety for the drivers.

I am not sure if I will ever have a favorite driver but I highly recommend someone seeing one race in their lifetime.

Here are some pics.

Thanks Pats, I saw part of the race on TV and saw that accident you mention there. It had to be a hell of a experience to enjoy. Thanks for sharing it here!

I'm more NHRA then NASCAR however I have attended Talledega on 2 occasions. There truly is nothing quite like it. Something everyone should put on there to-do list.

Thanks for sharing Pat

Even if people "don't like NASCAR", I recommend that they go to at least one live race! If you're a car-guy... there's nothing quite like it!!!:hurray:

I used to go a lot to NHIS. When things started changing in NASCAR and and I started falling asleep about 30 laps into the race I decided it was time to stop going.

I agree with Bill, any car guy MUST attend one of these races. If you don't get amped up smelling that racing fuel and hearing that exhaust you must be dead!

I agree Bill, I like sports cars and open wheel type racing, but NASCAR events are always a good time. I have gone to the race at Michigan a number of times and it always entertained.

jk

I never thought I'd ever attend a NASCAR event, because I don't follow it and circle track racing does not really interest me. Somehow I managed to get two tickets and a couple of VIP passes to the Kansas 400 on October 4th at our local Kansas Speedway, so the wife and I are going to give it a try. Like a previous post said, try it at least once, so you know what you are missing (or avoiding ) I'm taking the big NIKON with me, just in case our seats are close enough to actually photograph anything.

[I also had no idea that NASCAR tickets were so expensive. The two grandstand seats we got have a face value - or price - of $113.00 each. Makes the NFL look like a bargain.]

Wait til you have a few $7 beers and a $12 sandwich!!! And if you want a shirt and a hat bring a credit card....they ain't cheap neither. My wife and I use to go to vegas for the race. Then we figured for the same money spent on the weekend (tickets, hotels, travel etc) we could go to Hawaii. I've had a lot of fun and am glad I saw a few races but I could not rationalize going every single year like some folks do...just my opinion.
