My first "makeover"

I talked my buddy into letting me practice on his 1995 Toyota Corolla that was badly in need of some paint lovin'.

Being my first detail (exterior only) I learned a few things....

-The PC 7424 is a nice machine, but I see why you Autopians like the rotary. (I unfortunately didn't learn of the benefits of this machine before the detail. I'll have to pick one up).

-Meg's #84 is a pain to get off by hand (or even with a spritz of QD). :wall:

-The LC pads (orange and white) I had seemed to work well. I think I'll try some 4" spot pads in the future as well.

-Zaino Z-PC is nice, but it’s definitely a "last stage" polish before LSP.

Comments and/or critiques welcome.

The pics are together as before/after…

As you can see on the roof, I could only do so much with the PC 7424…(of course, I still need more practice). :chuckle:

Nothing short of incredible! Awesome work. Kudos to you.

You seemed to do very well with the PC. Why do you long for a rotary?

Thanks! As for the rotary, the paint was in bad shape and I'm sure it would have cut down on time. I'm going to try the 4" spot pads next before I step up to the rotary. I guess I was just hoping for a more "miraculous" outcome on the oxidation. :chuckle: :waxing: My buddy and his wife were pretty happy with the outcome.

Holy crap! That doesn't even look like the same car. And you used #84? The Compound Power Cleaner? That IS a rotary product.

Tahnks again. I realized the #84 was a rotary product, but it was the only product with a decent amount of abrasives at the local shop. Everything else was rated at 3 or lower on the Megs scale. :faint: I think I'll order up som Poorboys SSR2.5 for next time.

That was pretty miraculous. I would leave it alone now...from the looks of the before pics (and the afters) there isn't much paint left...pretty close to CC failure...at least on the roof.

I think your right about the CC being close to failure. I made my friend promise to keep up on the protection from now on. :) BTW, the after the #84 with the LC orange, I went to the Z-PC with a white LC pad, then Z-5(x2) then Z-2(x2) with the Z-8 last.

other than the roof, the other pics proved that it was a successful detail :)

i did not know the car was green until the after shots :shocked
