My first headlight restoration.

Excellent job of your Headlight restoration. I have used both HL restoration wet sandpaper by hand and the 3M kit. I personally like the 3m Kit.

your welcome dave, i never used that 3m kit, i have used a 3 inch da and polisher. i find doing it by hand takes a little longer but better results!

Hey Dave that looks good man! My story is similar to yours, I watch and study the process for weeks til I had the confident to do it and I was surprised of how well everything went.

I never bought a 3M kit. I used 1000, then 2000,

polish with Medium compound/Yellow cuttting pad

then Light compound/yellow pad

then Merzerna PO85RD w/ white pad.

and it worked for me.

Nice job, bud.

I just did a headlight today for the first time (ran out of time to do other and fogs).

By hand:

800 grit wet sandpaper

1500 grit wet sandpaper

By drill, preforming an IPA wipedown before each step

OP using LC 4" Orange (light cut)

OP using LC 4" White (polish)

KAIO using LC 4" Gray (finish)

Came out perfect.

I'd post a picture, but photobucket is being a pain...

EDIT: I won't hijack your thread, so here's a link to it.

DOUBLE EDIT: Changed pad. I was mistaken on one of my listings.

I can vouch for the OP, the plastic on the Santa Fe headlights sucks something fierce as I already replaced mine once (the UV coating had begun to flake off so it was only a matter of time).

I have the same year and color SF and that one looks like it was pretty wailed on. No matter...most of them are.

Great turn around on the lights. :2thumbs:

Looks pretty good! I just completed my first headlight restoration job on my civic too. I wet sanded with 600, 1200, and a 3000 3M pad. Then I used Maguire's headlight polish with a DA buffer and an orange pad (mild cutting). Turned out very clear.

I need to redo the passenger side lens because it was in worse shape. There are still some deep pits from rocks, gravel and sand. It must be from driving on highways with gravel shoulders or something??

Thanks for the great feedback guys. Just did a Sienna and it turn out great but did not take any pics. By the time I got to my shop I realized I left my camera on the desk back home. This time I used 3 different papers which made it even easier than my first job. 600,800 and 1500 then finished with 3M 3000 Trizact polish. Next job I will remember to take the pics and post here. Any of you guys care to share pricing info? I was think ing that $79.95 would be a good price to start with?
