Hey all,

I just wanted some feed back on if these steps were ok so I can proceed this weekend....

These are my steps

1. Wash
2. Claying along with washing
3. Opt Compound with Orange pad
4. 4Star UPP with Green Pad
5. Duragloss 951

Is that process ok? Am I missing any steps? I'm using a PC 7336SP.

I'm going to start on Friday and finish up Saturday...

I have a Satin Silver Acura TSX. There are some watermarks on it with some light scratches and swirls all over

thanks for your help!

The process looks good to me with a couple of reservations.
Since I have no idea what an orange pad or a green pad might be, I'll just call the pads I would use by their intended use name.
3. The Optimum compound, I would use a polishing pad.
4. The UPP, I would use a finishing pad. The UPP is a great product. Just be sure to apply it very very thin.
5. The Dura Gloss Aqua Wax over the UPP should look great, but IMO the UPP should be allowed to cure for 24 hours before putting any topper on it.

You should have a great looking vehicle when you are finished.

Hello Charles,

Here's what I got from the site on which color each pads are...

Orange for light cutting/medium swirl removal, White for light polishing, and Green for sealants..

So I would use the Opt Compound with the white? and the UPP with the Green?

Also, would it be good if I let the UPP cure and add another layer? Would it have any affect?

Thanks for the help and I will post before and after pictures after I am done.

Hi Sav:
The Optimum compound is pad dependent and I would use a polishing pad with it. Actually, I don't even own any cutting pads and personally feel that polishing pads will take care of most problems. You may have to work at it a little longer though. I know a lot of people do use various cutting pads with the PC and it might be worth your while to try a section with a cutting pad to see if it leaves any marring. You might need to follow the cutting pad with a polishing pad to have a finish ready for the UPP.

I alway felt that letting the UPP cure and applying a second coat was worthwhile. I'm not sure if it is layering or if it was just making sure I had even coverage.

I'm done for tonight so someone else will have to help with anymore questions. :)

Also is it necessary to have a step between step #3 and Step #4?
You snuck one in on me. :D
I always used either Klasse AIO or 4 Star UPC as a paint cleaner between step 3 and 4.
I was using Meg's #9 Swirl Remover and it had some polishing oils in it that I thought might affect the UPP bonding. I don't think that will be a problem with the Optimum.

to piggyback on this question, from using Klass AIO, would it be ok if I hand cleaned it using microfiber towels/pads?

I only say this b/c if I use a PC I would have to keep the pad moist all the time and I know AIO is not as lubricant and do not want any type of marring before I proceed to 4* UPP.

That and I don't have any extra pads :passout:

Good Morning:
Absolutely.
Klasse AIO is to be applied with a damp applicator and for me it was always so easy to do it by hand that I seldom used the PC with it. The AIO is to be wiped off after each section.
The UPP is also very easy to hand apply and that's how I usually applied it. Some people feel it is easier to get a thin application using the PC, but I never had any problem doing it by hand. The UPP should be allowed to haze before removal. That can take from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
A foam applicator to apply and a good MF towel to remove works great for me.
While I have used the PC to apply several different products, my feeling is that the main benefit of the PC is paint correction. Unless I have some swirls or flaws to work on, I rarely use it. For swirl removal, it is almost a necessity for me since I have used it, but everything else works fine with hand application.

I don't have anything to put on the pad before I put on the compound or sealant...

is it ok to put a couple spritzes of water?

You should read the manufacturer's instructions for each product.
1. Klasse AIO should be used with a pad that has been dampened with water.
2. 4 Star UPP should be applied with a dry pad. Don't dampen the pad to apply UPP.
3. Read the instructions on the Optimum compound. I haven't used it so I have no idea what they recommend. If they say to dampen the pad, they will most likely mean to use water.
