My fellow pro's

I rarely go into a picture thread because it's always paint correction for the most part and $70,000+ cars. If I'm going to be impressed I want to see that 1990 Tempo that's never been cleaned a day in it's life and I don't want to see swirl removal I want to see a nasty before interior and a sparkling after.

That to is what impresses me. Not detailing out a new vehicle or garage queen.

If I have a client that wants pics, I link them to my photobucket account. I may only post 20 pics but I usually take at least a 100 and save them to the site.

Nice to see more and more people actually think like I do. A pictogram post should be informative not "here's 100 pics of swirls 5 pics of process and another 100 of every possible angle I can of the afters"

The other thing I learned is Autopia is NOT a site designed around attracting customers. almost everyone on here is a detailer. Every now and then someone will come on here looking for some work to be done but 99% of the people on here are either detailers or people wanting to be detailers. Its just the way this site is geared. It's also why there's so much emphisis on the product sponsors. Because we are the clients to those guys and they know it. THat's why they pay the advetising dollars. They are here for us to spend money on them and (hopefully) brag them up a bit.

I disagree.... Maybe it has not worked for you but for the past 2 years I have had a good amount of customers come to me from Autopia!

I have been on Autopia for almost 10 years now and I can personally say that the amount of pictures being put in Click and Brag posts has doubled or tripled. I have no problem with pictures documenting techniques or products used. However to have 25 pictures of the swirls from every single angle is total overkill.

A few 50/50's is fine with some great shots afterwards. I find myself just scrolling quickly to the bottom to see the final results. I do like to see what products /ratios others are using etc.

I can't imagine some of the C and B's now if I was still on 56k lol. Thank god for FIOS lol :)

No, don't cut down the mega write-ups! I love the "action" shots! (read that with heavy sarcasm)

Think off all the billable hours you guys are trying to take away from these guys! :chuckle:

My thought exactly.

If I was paying a contractor to tile my bathroom, I'd be pissed if he stopped every 3 minutes to take a picture of his work.

I love write ups but there is no need for 100, 150, or freaking 200 pics.

20-25 at the most.

I love to view threads but there is only so many swirl shot, fixed shot......swirl shot, fixed shot pis one can look at.

What happened to back when write ups were supposed to help out a novice instead of them becoming glory to myself threads?

Not bashing just suggesting.

Agreed......All corner shots b4 and afts, and some wheel shots, hood, deck, and call it done. I dont need to see 2-3 shots of the same corner in different light with different reflections. I see no reason for more then a coupkle dozen. Ive gotten used to just skipping various posters' threads, as Im certain theres way too many pics.

If you wanna catch my attention at least, K.I.S.S.

Same here. Maybe not directly from Autopia members but from recommendations from other car forums who will link my threads. Plus, it gives me a way to link my work to potential clients. My brother admins my website and lately hasn't been very good about keeping it updated (something about his family and business come first, can you believe that? :lol )so having threads here really help. I think it is a balancing act to do a write-up that helps inform and teach our fellow members without overwhelming a potential client who might see our work here.

Todd's C&B's were the best that Autopia had, I'm sure a lot of wannabee's got their ideas and style from reading the posts he made. When I think overkill - I think of the grand master of marketing- Paul Dalton, that guy is great at what he does but after looking at his youtube stuff, I'd rather watch 2 hours of the best of Billy Mays anyday.

I agree with much of what is being said here. Honestly, I stopped reading the C&B threads about a year ago for this exact reason.

I'm not going to criticize other detailers marketing efforts, but really you only need one good thread/description documenting your process. The rest can be justified with a paragraph and a dozen pictures. If someone wants to know your process, link them to the gigantor thread.

I agree 100%! Just so happens that this is how I do all of my posts! I take a lot more pictures than actually make it onto my website or here one Autopia but there's no reason for redundant pics. I too will not look at a post with too many pics. Takes too much time and, most times, they aren't showing me anything new! 43 angles of the same swirls and then you have to wait until the very end to see the "after" shot. Then to see the difference you have to scroll back through all of the pics to find the "before" pic.......way too much work!!

Good post Scott!!

If a thread has too many pics for you, then don't read it.

There are different detailers here who offer different levels of detailing. When someone is detailing a rare car, I know I love to see a lot of pics. Also when a car has severe defects and someone wants to show every panel was fully corrected, that is fine as well.

I have also had clients who want me to take many before and after pics. They too want their moment in the sun.

Jason, Good for you. The sign of a good businessman is the ability to use tools to market themselves to a higher level then the many hacks that are out there. I always enjoy seeing your work! Congrats on your continuing success. :up

Already done and done.

I think the idea behind Scott's suggestion (of course, not being able to speak for Scott) is merely a courtesy. Just because a client wants to see 100 pictures of their car doesn't mean that everybody else wants to...

I think since the client is the one paying for the detail and the pics when requested, I'm more apt to do what the client requests. :nixweiss

Bryan..I see your point. However, that is between the client and the detailer. Not the client, detailer, and Autopia Click and Brag section.

Is the client specifically paying you and requesting to post hundreds of pictures of their car onto online forums to show off to others? If so, I think where the courtesy lays is linking a lengthy picture thread to an off-site gallery and not multiple comments on a 'discussion' forum.

IMHO, if you have to create a reply to your own thread because there are too many pictures on the first comment, you have too many pictures.
