I love looking at the details in the pro detailer's before and after section. Interesting to see the cars everyone is working on and what products and techniques are being used. I think we all learn a lot from them.

That being said, do we really need 100-200 pictures of the same car? 4-5 to show the swirls is enough, showing nearly every square inch of the car is overkill. Same with the half/half shots and afters. Maybe cut the washing pictures down too? I mean, washing the car before a detail is a given, right? I've seen some that seriously have 4-5 pictures of the crevice brush cleaning lug nuts. I understand everyone likes to show off their hard work but it makes going through the thread pretty tedious, IMO. I end up skipping through to the end when I get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of pictures.

I'm not picking on anyone in particular, I know at times I'm guilty of overdoing it too. Maybe if we streamlined the threads a bit we'd all have time to view more of them. Who's with me? :nixweiss

I, to a certain degree, agree with you.

However, I have learned several things and interesting techniques from the

pictures of seemingly mundane things.

I hestitate to say this, but I think a lot of us want to be the next Todd Helme :D

So, I suppose, count me in as well.

Speaking of Todd, what happened to him?! He was always one of my fav's when it came time for some stupid in depth stuff.

What, you mean like be banned from autopia? :bolt

Actually, Todd didn't post that many mega picture threads anyway.

My problem is I am often time limited and when there are 150+ pictures, I often close out of the thread and go on to one that won't take as long to go through.

Not a pro, just a weekend hack. As such, I greatly appreciate and benefit greatly from the posts the pros make. As a hobbyist, I like to look at the before and afters but what I really want to see are the products and techniques/steps that are used by the pros. Pictures have little value to me without a description of the process taken to achieve the end result. Just a hobbyist's two cents.

I feel you Scott and I'm right there with you. I know we've been guilty of creating posts with too many "redundant pics" and we've worked to eliminate most of them. Sometimes less really is more. I too often find myself constantly tapping "page-down" on the keyboard because of the insane amount of pics in some posts. Like I remember you once saying; I don't need to see 15 pics of swirls and defects to know there are swirls and defects! Even with afters we try only include the 5-8 best shots of the car. It'd be different if we were professional photographers and each after was background/poster quality.

The only time I like more pics is when the process is something unique, or when someone posts a before/during/after pic of the same area being worked.

I like my 25-35pictures for normal threads. 3-8 of washing/defects/wheels, a few during and plenty of eye candy. Some are overboard though. We don't need to see every panel of swirls, we get the point!

Yeah, no.

Meaning: Every little thing is precisely documented and described with much fan fare.

Well, that layout he copied from Clark/Paul/Mark over at Detailing World.

Now those are the people we want to be... :bounce:bounce:bounce

I totally get what your saying but with all due respect, do you listen to every song on a CD or skip over one if you don't like it? I mean, so what if someone posts 100 pix, just scroll through till something catches your eye. That's what I do-and i've only been here for a few months. I could see your position though, a teniored (sp?) detailer would get bored looking.

I'm not bored looking, but when there are 40 before shots of swirls, I want to scroll through those quickly to get to the next set and may end up missing something in my haste.

I also don't like to view the 100+ pic threads, or the C+B section that much, because of the obvious overkill.

I agree that everyone wants to show off their work, but if you can't describe and layout your work in less than 50 pics, then maybe include a link to Photobucket for the people that want to see the whole detail.

I brought this up, back when Todd was trying to out do Paul, with the 200+ threads.

I love write ups but there is no need for 100, 150, or freaking 200 pics.

20-25 at the most.

I love to view threads but there is only so many swirl shot, fixed shot......swirl shot, fixed shot pis one can look at.

What happened to back when write ups were supposed to help out a novice instead of them becoming glory to myself threads?

Not bashing just suggesting.

+1 and bolded for emphasis.

It seems to be more for self aggrandizing through a competition of picture quantity than anything. I see the titles continuously with the number of pictures in exclamation as if more is better.

It's actually one of the reasons that I generally stay out of that subforum. There's absolutely no reason I need to see 50+ swirl pics- I don't even like taking more than 5 pictures of the ones that I correct firsthand.

These swirls look like the last ones, huh? Well, see ya later!

When a potential customer comes on this site to look for someone to contract they get a very good idea of exactly what is done when pictures of the various steps are taken and that often helps "seal the deal"...

While I do post up to share my process' my main objective when posting is to attract new customers..
