My DD - Opti-Coated

At the beginning of my holiday break, I was finally able to use new products. Have been wanting to coat my DD for a while but the water restrictions (8-10AM Sundays only) put a serious hindrance in place. Turned out to be a 2 day effort. The car is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in Harbor Grey Metallic. It was purchased in Jan 2011 and has a little over 6k miles. The paint is exceptionally hard and there was very little swirling and only a few RIDS. That, combined with the color, made Before pics futile. (Well that and rain.)

Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Started off thinking I would just jewel with Optimum Finish Polish on black via Metabo but my paint laughed at that. Stepped up to Polish II on white with GG6 with same results. Switched to orange and finally got the gloss enhancement I was looking for. The paint is hard enough that M105 on MF finished LSP-ready.

Made my own Opti-Coat applicator with sponge wrapped in Saran Wrap and a Carpro MicroSuede.

Going to wash it tomorrow for the first time since I coated it. An yes, there will be pics - hopefully the sun will be out.

The pics do not do it justice. There is so much gloss that the car actually looks lacquered! Am really happy with the results.
 
Sounds awesome! Glad you are so happy with the result. It is such a great feeling after putting so much hard work into a car to stand back and just keep smiling and the end result! :)
 
Like any coating Opti-Coat will mimic the finish it's applied to. Because Opti-Coat is a true permanent coating it's thinker than sealants and waxes and I personally believe it possesses some flow characteristics immediately after application.

This is a perfect example of what a finish can look like if proper surface preparation is done prior to the application of a coating.

The surface looks like a coat of wet lacquer has just been applied....:bigups
 
That looks awesome! I'd like to coat my car at some point, but as it stands I want to get some bodywork done first.
 
The paint looks great. I don't know much about opti-coat, but when you guys use it are you applying any waxes over the top or leaving it as is. Does it have that good of a shine to it that a nuba is pointless?
 
I am going to top it with OCW (and probably other stuff ;) ). The coatings can still get waterspots and IME nubas are more resistant to that.

Won't have the durability but that has never been an issue with me. I like to wax, too.
 
Nice job. I still need to coat my mom's Sonata but when I have had time the weather doesn't cooperate and I don't have a garage to work in.
 
imo, the dirt shedding properties are the best reason to coat

my aunt's car hardly ever looks dirty, even though she drives it everyday. My car gets dirty if I take it out for a ride around the block...
