hehe, no its not my mum ;)

My dads, favourite car, 1968 Mercedes Sl280, straight 6 2.8 liter engine.

He bought it second hand in 1969 for like $5000 and has received offers from collectors for like $35000 but he won't let it go...thankfully as its a great car....doesn't even let me drive it...all i've done is driven it off the lift, and back on when i was detailin it hehe.

Drives it a couple days a month, when its a nice day out, and he like using all its power at the rear wheels which tends to scare the crap out of me as he sometimes likes showin off by actually drifting it round some corners :scared hehe

anyway, i love this car, and gave it a quick ''detail'' using Gold class shampoo, and then just going over it with Gold class wx to give it a bit of shine, and using meguiars professional metal polish for the chrome...i think it looks pretty darn good, but i could do better. (p.s ignore the dates on the camera, was usin my dads camera and realised he set the date wrong :doh)

 :bow That car is simply stunning! Those older SLs have such timeless styling! No wonder you Dad is so possessive of it.

thanks alot for your praise guys, i love the car, even though parts are sooo expensive! We order all parts for it from the mercedes factory in germany, as they still have loads of parts for it...just to give u an example of part costs...

ONE sun visor $170

The chrome grill $800

Headlight glass...just the glass coverin the head light $200

he loves that car, and obviously has fond memories of it, so i reckon he would never part with it...no matter what hehe, will hook you guys up wit some more pics in a bit

That's a beaut Luke - like Scottwax says, timeless styling.

Perfect for crusing in the sun, top down...oh, I remembered your Dad won't let you drive it - sorry....

f you want to get good parts prices, check our silver arrows in London - they restore and sell SL's so maybe worth bearing them in mind for the future.

Well price isn't a real issue with my dad, he would rather buy the parts direct from the factory and get piece of mind.. but thanks alot for help.

He just got the book wit exploded diagrams of EVERY lil thing on the car, its about 4-5 inches thick hehe, with all part names and numbers labelled

Your Dad sounds like a real Autopian Luke!

I know Mercedes has a very good factory supported spares & restoration scheme and I guess you can't beat that.

well to be honest...he is an autopian, in certain aspects, but not in others....lets just say he is not as much of an obsessed autopian as the majority of us are hehe

Beautiful. Looks all original too. Don't see as many older SL models in Central Canada, as the salt and winter take their toll on a lot of the older cars.
