Because everyone else does.![]()

What kind of wheels are you going to use?

Antonio Wright said:I really don't know yet. I see your in the Fairfax area. I was out there last Friday at Fairoaks towncenter with a bunch of other VW's. If you were out there you could not miss me(black guy driving a Passat with temp tags).
tdekany said:I have been out of the VW scene for awhile now. Don't go to meeting and/or shows anymore.

Aurora40 said:Sorry if I'm driving the tire thing into the ground. But I do have a slightly different point. Besides the rather odd look (to each their own), there is a safety factor to be aware of. A tire of a given size is only rated to be mounted on a certain range of rim sizes. It varies by tire (not every 255/45-18 tire can fit the same width of rims).
I had a hard time when I got tires for my Corvette, as most 255/50-16's were not rated to be mounted on a 16x9.5" rim. I could have just done it with any tire as they all would fit, but they wouldn't fit safely.
Here is Toyo's spec sheet on the T1-S. The only 255/xx-18 I see is 255/35-18 and 255/45-18. The 255/45 is rated for an 8-9.5" wide wheel, and the 255/35 is rated for an 8.5-10" rim. Neither are rated for an 11" wide rim:

Tires are not something to mess around with the safety of IMO. But as long as you are aware of the issue, then enjoy the "euro" look of your tires.![]()
