My brother's Father in law was killed in an accident

I don't know the details other than it was a one car rollover in Iowa and Mike was driving (they live down here, but they were taking a trip).

This really sucks. I know my brother and his wife are devastated, Mike was a really cool guy. I was watching the UK/Michigan State game with him last Sunday.

One of the best things about my brother's marriage to his wife are her parents. Two of the nicest people you could ever meet. I am really going to miss him.

The hardest part is my brother's daughter is only 19 months old and she really isn't going to remember what a terrific Grandfather Mike was and how much joy she brought him.

RIP Michael O'Brien :(

That really sucks, sorry to hear about it.

P.S. I don't like pointing these things out but you might want to edit the title :D

Sorry to hear Scott. I lost my Grandfather this passed week. It's very very hard, especially when its so sudden and how they touched soo many lives.

Rest In Peace.

My condolences as well, Scott. Sorta puts some of our ("Autopian") concerns in perspective, huh?

I absolutely agree.

When it happened, I started to think to myself, "what's *really* important?"

Cue the theme to The Twilight Zone.....

My brother, his wife and their daughter were driving up to Iowa yesterday to pick up his Mother-in-law and make their way to Illinois for the funeral and my brother was looking for the site where the accident was on I-80. He quickly passed a slow moving truck and was nabbed by the highway patrol for doing 80 mph. He explained to the officer why they were in Iowa and asked if the officer knew the spot where the accident took place. The cop called a supervisor and the officer who worked the accident drove out to where my brother was and let them a mile or two up the road to where it happened. If my brother hadn't been stopped for speeding, he would never have found where the accident occured. No ticket either.

Anyway, the officer told them that Mike took no corrective actions at all (braking, steering) and had a suspicion a medical problem like a stroke or heart attack may have caused him to lose control. The accident could have been much worse. The median is only about 30 feet wide and only a drainage ditch kept the car from getting to the other side of the freeway and maybe causing a head on collision.

Thank-you all for your support. The Pastor at my brother's church spent quite a bit of time with them on Sunday, especially with my brother's wife and I am very grateful that he did so. My brother said his wife was coping a lot better after Pastor Steve had left. :)

Wow Scott, I'm really sorry to hear that. Its always devastating to loose a loved one, but even worse when they still have good life left to live.

Both you and Sean will be in my thoughts.
