My behemoth LX470

Hi All,

I just got my first SUV, fortunately I got an LX470. The car came to me with some minor scratches and touchups. I'm not worried about that though. The paint though, looks malnourished though. Therefore, I'm devoting a day (playing hookie from work) to just detail the car. What are the procedures I should follow and what product? I.e. clay, then polish, then wax, then seal, then.... I'm limited to my hands and arms (no orbital buffer)...please advise on the products. Also, I would like to condition my leather too. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

Well if you are not worried about the scratches then you don't need a polisher wich you mentioned that you do not have:xyxthumbs

This is what I suggest Wash it with your shampoo of choice, clay it , use a light Polish ,like 3M perfect-it hand glaze this will help removing some minor swirls , wash it again and use a Wax of choice or Polymer sealant .

Now for the leather you can clean it with woolite mixed with water 1 to 6 ratio( 1 parts woolite to 6 parts water)and than condition with Mothers leather conditioner, or you can go all out and use leatherique cleaner and conditioner.

Hope this helps a little:wavey

Products:

Mothers california gold wash

Mothers clay system

3M Polish

P21S Wax or Mothers gold paste

Mothers leather conditioner or the Leatherique twins

Just get this kit here (have to plug Autopia - although I have no affiliation): Perfect Shine

And add a clay magic kit (also available here) and you're set.

For the leather, you can use woolite to do the cleaning, and then Lexol, 4 Star, Meguiar's, Mother's, you name it, to condition the leather.

Explorer,

I think that the hand glaze would cover up swirls and not actually remove them. Washing the car right after glazing would just undo the hiding that the glaze was meant to do. Personally I would wax immediately after a glaze.

Missed that. Agreed. Glaze is meant to be topped with wax. If you wash, you just wasted your work, unless your objective was for a mild polishing, like with Vanilla moose.

Dave, check out 5 Star shine. There is info on this site as well as some long term reviews on nicoclub.com I have an ad banner that comes up on this site that you can get a discount code from.

I just put it on my dad's new Titan. It looks incredible and feels smoother than any other product out there.

If you have any ?'s about it shoot me a pm.

It didn't need alot of prep work since it was new. I clayed it fairly quickly. All in all with all of the prep work etc it took around 2.5 hours.
