My 93 BMW M5

About 3 months ago I purchased one of my dream cars…this 1993 BMW M5. I searched for a long time and finally found the right car for me. I bought the car in very good original condition with only 90k miles, but it definitely needed some major detail work to be up to my standards. I’ve spent over 25 combined hours so far on the interior and exterior, and I still have to work on the engine bay. Pics…

One of my favorites vehicles of all times ... outstanding work.

You are missing one thing though ... "smileys"... LOL.

Beautiful car! You did a great job with the paint.

Are you going to leave it stock? I was thinking as I scrolled through the photos that window tint would really look great on this car.

wow man . . . . the M5 is looking sharp. Loving that blue. I would love to own a M5 newer or older but the thing that frightens me is the cost to maintain those cars or parts in general when something breaks is not cheap.

Excellent find though. Where did you purchase it from?

Thanks for the comments so far :)

I'm going to leave it mostly stock, but I do have some upgrades planned. A previous owner has lowered the car slightly and installed a performance chip. I added the euro bumper trim (no reflectors) and will be adding euro spec headlights and HID soon. I am still undecided about window tint.

I bought the car from a private seller in NC. The previous owner posts on a BMW forum I frequent, and I was able to buy the car before he officially advertised it.

You know...these cars are still relatively simple (compared to the newer ones) and really aren't terribly expensive to maintain, assuming you can do most of the work yourself. Many parts are shared with a standard 5-series, and can be purchased at reasonable discounted prices through online sources. Some of the M5 specific parts are expensive though, and this engine does require more maintenance (valve adjustment and spark plugs every 15,000 miles).

Man that thing is minty fresh! Great car and awesome job on it. I know what it feels like to get a car like that and then pour your heart into it to bring it to "your code". You're gonna feel awesome driving it!

Absolutely stunning. One of my all-time favorite BMW's, in THE perfect color combination. Congratulations on the purchase, and kudos for making it look so nice.

Prices are anywhere from ~$10 - $20k depending on miles and condition.

The e34 is a truly beautiful car and the last of the hand built M5s. I love the newer M5s, but there is something to be said about the older big-i6 with DOHC.

Stunning car; take care of it!

I'm really enjoying working on and driving the car...I think this will be a keeper for a very long time!

Truly a great find- a beautiful, well maintained M5. What does one with these miles in good condition go for these days?

Prices vary, but the best examples of these M5s go for $15k plus. They can be found for under $10k, but will likely have high mileage or need some work.

The color (Avus Blue) is one of the main reasons I was drawn to this particular car. It's very uncommon and really looks nice.

The newer ones are nice, but (in my opinion) they lack the same character and uniqueness that appeals to me about the e34.
