Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)

Holy, wow. That's impressive! I always know what to expect in one of your threads but I'm always blown away!

Wow rick . . . . well the main thing is came out great. I was in the same exact situation where i spent way more time then i actually had quoted for and i spent about 18hrs total over a few days. Not sure what it is with those paints but boy it just wasn't fun.

That beast got blacked out. The befores look like Ryan rubbed it blind folded with rocks in a bottle via twisted wool. :har:

TLMitchell- Thanks again!

<O:p

DW849- No problem, thanks!

<O:p

<O:p

Got_Leather- Thanks DJ!

I sent the guy a PM, so let me know if you hear from him...

<O:p

bufferbarry- Thanks Barry!

I'm just trying to keep up with you and all of the great details you've been pumping out! The new Hydro-tech pads are awesome on certain paint and can be a huge timesaver. I was lucky I didn't have to break out the wool for this one. Yes, unfortunately I wasn't able to get any sun shots, but I talked to Ryan and he said he snapped a couple for me when he was moving cars around. I'll see if he can post them up for me.

<O:p

aleicgrant- Haha... I wouldn't doubt it!! Thanks!

mc01ta- So, I take it you don't like body shops or mechanics! ;)

I completely agree... A huge percentage of the work I do is fixing other peoples mistakes. While it is aggrevating, I guess it is job security! Thanks for the kind words!

XxMerlinxX- Thank you!

dsms-Thanks a lot Dave!

The shop is always full of cars... Ryan says I'm like a squirrel, packing as many cars in the shop as possible! :) I think it's almost time for a bigger shop!

BTW, did you ever hear from the guy with the Aston?

d00t- Thanks!

VALE TUDO- Thank you!

paintxpert- Thank you very much! Although the PC is great for certain jobs, you can't beat the rotary for severely neglected paint as this Mustang had. Menzerna rocks!

Strokin04- Thanks a lot!

Labster- Thanks! :). I get all the fun ones to work on:woot:

vtec92civic- Thank you!

It was difficult paint to work with, but luckily I was able to make progress and get it looking good in the end...

Scottwax- Thanks Scott!

David Fermani- Thanks! Sometimes Ryan sleeps at the shop and has been known to sleep walk. Maybe he got up in the middle of the night and swirled it up on me? I'll have to review the security tapes...:)

pampos- Thanks buddy!

Are you making fun of my Boston accent?

If so, it's pronounced "cah" not "car"... You don't pronounce the R :D

Actually the FUNNYthing is......... I was picturing Ryan saying that, oh btw is the Forg GT ever going to leave? (lol) and the Hydro pads are the poo once you get the proper combo working.

I agree, our Boston accents definitely stand out... The GT should be leaving this weekend, just waiting for the clear-film installer to show up. As for the Hydro-tech pads, they are awesome and I'm glad they're finally available here in the US.

absolutely awesome !!!

your shop is really nice...... my dream is to own my own detailing biz

Thanks!

The shop is working out great. It has come a long way from when I moved in, but I still have a lot I want to do. I could live there if I wanted to. There's a full bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette (sink, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc., and a nice office upstairs. It's a great backup if the wife ever kicks me out! :)

I have some T5 HO lighting being installed soon and I would like to have the floor coated as well. The only tough part is not being able to drive on it for several days after it has been applied. Hopefully it will slow down a bit between Thanksgiving and Christmas so I can get it done.

I'm sure you'll get there some day, it just takes time...

Amazing work!!!!

Are they a lot better then say the orange/white LC pads?

As with anything, you aren't going to find one product, pad or tool that works perfectly on everything, but I really do love the new Hydro-tech pads. I find them to work the best on harder clears, such as newer BMW's, MB, Audi, VW and Corvette's. I prefer to use them via rotary and prefer to use the regular 5.5 inch LC flat pads on the PC.

Looks good Rick. We gotta bust out a car together after sled season or something. Auto detailing has been forgotten about once the weather goes below 50F.

outstanding. i have a couple of questions though.

my vehicles aren't in nearly the condition of that car, but they are a little rough. do you feel you could have achieved the same results in the first step using a 7424 and the same pad/product combo albeit taking longer?

secondly, why the black pad with PO85 for the last step? i thought black was for wax since it has no cut?

Jokeman- Thanks Bryan!

That sounds good. Maybe we'll tag team our cars and work on them together, since I never have the time to do my own. It always stinks cleaning your own car...

Cholleman- Thank you very much!

I think you will be able to get some decent results with just a PC, but it will obviously take a little more time. I use the PC on many jobs, but find the rotary works the best at removing the deeper RIDS and more serious defects. This car was in very rough shape, so the rotary was a huge time saver. It really depends on the condition of the car and how hard / soft the paint is. The only way to know is to try it...

The reason for the last step was to raise the gloss a bit and ensure a swirl free finish. The black pad has very little mechanical action, but is commonly used for final polishing. Normally, blue, red or gold pads are used for applying wax, but a black will work also.

Rick I contacted you awhile back on here about my black Shelby and well I was not able to make time this season due to warranty issues with my car and basically not having it most of the time...dam dealers!

After seeing this thread, I absolutely can not wait for you guys to work your magic on mine, although I was already sold on your work anyway but its nice knowing Ford black can look proper!

But really, to go from the condition it was to this is beyond incredible especially considering you had to hold back some.

Will be in touch spring of 2010 :D

Thanks for doing the black car world justice by fixing that mess!

I was staring at the "after" pics for so long it just felt odd not posting about it ahah
