I tried Murphy's oil soap on our leather couch today and it really looked refreshed afterwards. It did not to seem dry it out any and left the surface very nice. However, I dug out an article DavidB wrote, so now I'm glad I didn't try it on the car yet (wait, my couch costs more than the leather in the car, doh!). Is Murphy's equivalent to saddle soap? I tried to spray it on the leather, and then wipe it off, rather than actually work it into the surface. However, I'm sure the leather absorbed most of it. I had to wipe until the spot did not seem wet anymore.
It seemed to work well, but I guess it is not good in the long run. Next time, I think a damb microfiber towel will be best short of Lexol and the like. Comments?
