motorcycle wash advice??

I'm bought a motorcycle for my girlfriend and want to shine it up when i show up with it.



i never washed one before... i know it's basic water soap... etc...



what do i use for the chrome.



won't the soap degrease the chain what do i use to grease the chain?



any advice is appreciated

P21S Total Body Wash is an excellent product, especially on bikes. It really east the grime in those hard to reach areas.



Slick Stixxx is another great tool for those hard to reach places.



For chrome I use ClearKote Metal Polish



Regular soap isn't going to put a dent in the chain lube. However the chains should be lubed every 400-600 miles anyway. I would degrease the chain with chain cleaner and then put a light coat of chain lube on it.

Nothing really special about washing a bike, however if the chain is not recently lubed prior to washing, it will rust a bit from the water. Some bikes have fastners that rust too if not well dried. Many people use a shopvac (exhaust) to blow dry the bike or compressed air. There is no way to get all the water out of all the cracks with a towel.



For chain cleaning WD-40 is great or even straight kerosene.
 
I'd suggest Optimum No Rinse to wash a bike, that way you don't have to worry about getting the leather parts (Or any parts) wet if you don't want to.
 
I only use a quick detailer on my bike and repsol chain lube after the chain is dry. I also use Plexus on the clear plastics.
 
If you are washing with ONR or regular shampoo, stay clear of the chain and any areas that may have chain fling on them (rear wheel, etc). If you try to clean those areas, you'll just smear the grime around and contaminate your wash mitt.



Kerosene is the cheap and easy way to clean the grimy bits.
