i have heard about using steel wool 0000 with chrome polish on the chrome... i was reluctant to do that on my last detail fearing it would scratch it....i want to try it though.....has neone had any success or problems with using steel wool on chrome :help: ? :help:

Yes.
0000 Steel wool with some Mother's Chrome Polish cleaned up the chrome on a motorcycle that had been stored in a shed for 6 years.
The surface rust comes right off. You can't remove the pits if you have any, but you can make them much less visible. Just rub gently and let the chrome polish and the natural abrasiveness of the 0000 steel wool work.

One of the bikes sitting in my garage had a polished chrome finish. The owner used steel wool on a few places to give a satin look. He did a good job. I hit a little area with chrome polish by accident, and I think it brought it back.

So it might work. Try a piece from the wreckers if no one knows.
 
I try to avoid steel wool just because of the stray fibers.

There's a product called "Colonel Brassy" that a few bike shops carry. It is hands down the best stuff I've found for chome. It will not scratch.

I've found it online a couple of times, the people doing rock polishing like using it. You can sometimes find it for about half the price from them.

google "vertex colonel brassy" and the first link that comes up is a bike shop recommending it.

i use polish only on my bike, i have never had the courage to try steel wool. i don't like the risks. it may take a little more effort but i prefer it that way. nice wheels vcallaway
 
Here is a couple pics of a Gragar Rim. I used Steel Wool with Blue Magic Polish, PBs wheel Sealant.The Wool i used was more aggressive then the one your speaking of. I had no problems with scratchs. BTW, I did the entire rear bumper using the same process..

I will look into this stuff...anyways i appreciate the input...i don't feel that scared to use steel wool because i trust all of ur opinions. This really helps me out..

Yeah i know the pics didn't turn out good at all.I have finished two complete details and definetly don't wanna use the camera again. My daughter gave me a Cannon Power Shot S 400 ,i need to pick up the charger for the Battery and i'll be good to go..
 
Use aluminum foil bunched up into a ball in a back and forth motion. This is less abbrasive than 0000 steel wool with better results.
