Mothers VS Meguiars

So i'm shopping for some products for my girls car... and we're pretty set on sticking with OTC products... out of which we've been looking at Meguiar's stuff (Gold class wax, or NXT Tech Wax 2.0) OR Mothers products (Ultimate wax 3 step system, or SynWax)

The car will be washed and clayed before application... so who has experience with these products and would like to share some pros and cons? Kinda looking for something that is easy on/off, lasts a while, and will handle minor paint imperfections (real light swirls)
 
I have a new Ford Fusion that didn't require any corrections, just wash and clay.

I used Mothers Reflections Wax, finished with Reflections Top Coat.

The product was very easy to apply and remove. Cost effective too.

Mothers has three basic lines:
1. A three step with a cleaner, glaze, and pure wax
2. FX - a synthetic wax
3. Reflections / Top Coat - a synthetic wax plus a hybrid pure wax.

FX plus using FX Spray Wax is a nice very easy way to keep a nice look.

FX spray is priced less than more many detailers yet has some durability so you can extend the detailed look for a long time.
 
If ease of use is towards the top of your list, go synthetic - FX or Reflections.

As Bunky said, FX (liquid or paste) and its matching Spray Wax would be a great choice. They're exceptionally easy to use and have a great finish. Reflections plus Top Coat would involve more work, and are more difficult to find. The 3 step Ultimate Wax System would be the most work of the 3 choices.

Also keep in perspective that the appearance on my Fusion will not be typical on older finishes.

My car is less than 2 months old.

I bought my products from a local Amsoil dealer.
 
I find Gold Class looked nice but didn't seem to last very long. NXT seemed "greasy" and was hard to buff clear (looked like smears left behind). For me, Mother's FX SynWax was the easiest application and removal by far of any OTC wax I've used. If you can find it, I'd go with the FX line.
If you wanted to deal with swirls, NXT hides fairly well. With Mother's, you may be better off going with their glaze and follow it with Reflections Top Coat.

As to older paint not being able to look as nice as new paint, I beg to differ. I had a black 1996 Ford Escort up until last year and I would put my 13 year old paint against most cars out there today regardless of age. I maintained the paint well, polished it as needed and washed it conscientiously. Some of the new cars I see are marred badly off the lot. It depends on how it's cared.

I agree with you. But that's not what I meant. :)

The Reflections Wax and Topcoat (that I used on new paint) are not designed to remove defects. So over new paint it will look better than over old unprepared paint. The OP did mention minor imperfections, swirls, etc.
 
If you are looking at just local OTC products

Call this company and see if they have a distributor with a store front in your area

There is one in my area and they are a full service detail supplier.

You do know it only takes 3-5 days for an order from Poorboys world or Autogeek to be delivered to your door. Ive fouynd it easier and cheaper to just buy the quality stuff from them than go look at bottles at NAPA, Arquest, or Wazlly6 World where Id buy something that I see. Im 14 miles from Napa and Carquest, and 32 miles from Wally World. Now if someone locally handled pads for roary and PC that might be different.. HINT HINT!!!!
 
We're discussing quality stuff. Mothers products.

I'm a city boy where there's a parts store on every corner, sometimes 4. :D
 
Thanks guys. Well my girls car is like, maybe, 6 months old? the swirl marks look to be dealer caused... plus over the last 6 months, she neglects the car quite a bit... so the paint is new, but needs some work, and overall, needs long lasting protection and ease of upkeep...

The Mothers line is available at Tognotti's Auto & Truck World, about 18 miles from me... but yeah, i might just order a little extra Poorboy's and use it on her car as well...

Did I say that? I think the majority of people here understand context. It's best to follow the thread and stick with context. My post was a reply to a previous post.

My HINT HINT was a reminder for me to order some pads. Not putting anything else into it. Id still rather buiy from PBs or AG over the parts store. You really dont get much help[ on the nusage of the products they sell cause they dont have a clue how to use them. Order stuff from PBs or AG and most on this forum and many others can help you out with the usage of the products.
 
I am not experienced at all with detailing as far as using a pc or flex. the only detailing i am familiar with is clay bar and hand wax and polish..... I know to alot of people on ths forum that is not a detail. It has gotten me by for he last few years when i started taking a liking to the " clean glossy look". But now i am ready to step it up and really " Detail". I am going to purchase the pc here very soon within a month or to. I was just going to but imo the meguiars 2.0 has served me very well for my hand application waxes. I have experienced mothers before it works very well. In fact similar to me with hand applications. I am not experienced with the polishers. But for the time being meguiars is my choice. I Love poor boys though
