Try this thread. :) http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24597&highlight=jacques

As for the QDs, I've only used Megs consumer QD, not FI. Mike Phillips says their Detailer line QD is supposed to be slicker, but I don't know if we can get it locally here. I've never really noticed all that much difference between the 3 QDs I've used honestly. Shine? :nixweiss Slickness is what I usually can judge better, and Showtime was a bit slicker last time I checked, but I should re-do the comparison sometime for you...

Mothers QD is a great product for what it is, a low-priced, easily found product with the car enthusiast in mind. All mothers products seem to be designed for car enthusuiasts, not exactly detailers. If you compare mothers products to other widely available products, I am sure mothers is one of the best choices, at least where I am.

Okay, a little while ago I redid my slickness test between the 3 retail consumer level QDs: Meguiar's Quik Detailer, Eagle One Wipe & Shine, and Mothers Showtime.

I sprayed each product on a section about 1x1.5' on a vertical panel on a van that hasn't been waxed in a while, but still had a bit of something left on it. I tried to be as consistent as possible in application - I sprayed it on, spread it around, and waited a couple seconds before gently buffing it off with a fresh side of MF. Bottles shaken of course.

Then I spent the next several minutes basically umm.... groping the side of the van, furtively glancing around to make sure the neighbors weren't watching. :lol It took me a while to get a feel for the surfaces, wiping my hand off from area to area, but after a while and a second QD application to be sure, I could tell there was a subtle difference in slickness. The slicker surfaces were more resistant to "grabbing" your fingers as you pressed down on the paint. I took a long time to do this and went back and forth between the various spots several times because I didn't want my imagination to be a factor.

In the end, I concluded that Mothers Showtime was still the slickest of the 3, with EO Wipe & Shine coming in second and Meguiar's Quik Detailer last. W&S was fairly close to the Showtime in slickness, but still grabbed more easily, and Quik Detailer was noticably grabbier than either.

This isn't to say that Quik Detailer is grabby and not slick. Like I said earlier, I've found most QDs to be quite similar in terms of performance. All 3 products will make your paint feel nice and slick again after a wash. This is just the subtle differences in slickness I've noticed at the limit, and one of the reasons why I prefer Showtime. Local availability helps too.

Okay, thanks for the testing. It seems that Showtime is the better performer but with EO close behind, it may give better bang for the buck. Showtime was 7.39 at Canadian Tire. EO was 8.18 at Lordco but we get the 30% discount. Showtime was over 10 bucks and Meg #34 FI (which I am sure would be better than the Quick Detailer you have) was 11 bucks at Lordco I think.

I started this thread a few days ago, to express my displeasure with Mother's Showtime.

After reading several 'RAVE REVIEWS' about ShowTime, I decided to give it another chance.

I used it on a customer's car today after giving it a wash.

IT WORKED GREAT! Very slick 'n' smooth....

I think I have isolated the problem.

a. My car is black and it was in VERY HOT SUNLIGHT. (103 degrees)....

b. I had applied Z6 just a couple hours prior.

I really think the combination of these two factors cause the smearing and streaking.

I feel a little better about the product now.

Bill....

Err.... gee, I guess you DID start this thread.... sorry about all of the OT posts we made! :o

Glad your experience was better this time too. :)

You should probably put an edit in your first thread, so that people know that you feel differently.

It would be a shame for people to be turned off by a great product based on something they read at a glance ;)

Mother's stuff is on sale at Crappy Tire. The 473ml bottle of Showtime is 7.39.

Other stuff I saw at Crappy Tire is the Jacques Villeneuve stuff by Sonax.

They had:

2 in 1 Car Wash 500ml for 8.99

Showtime is always $7.39 at Walmart. Crappy Tire is always overpriced. Although the SOnax stuff seems cheaper than the direct pricing (with no tax or shipping)
