First up, the sauerkraut I saw on the way to these details. Some chump in a 318i thought it would be cool to cut me off only to end up rubbernecking it in front of me for miles. Upon futher inspection, it proved he was a BC Alum with an ///M badge with ZERO mods...Impeccable taste!

So onto the wine story. I picked up these jobs from Patrick Holland (thanks again buddy). The owner of these three vehicles is in the business of wine making and has a family own/run winery in Sonoma, CA. He runs the Eastern portion of the company. At the end of the 2 days, he rewarded me with a nice tip and 3 bottles of wine :D.

I opened the Merlot to allow it to breathe a bit before forgetting to take the picture.

First up, Audi Allroad.

This vehicle was in pretty nice shape, just moderately soiled throughout, nothing too serious. I have to say though, after working on a few Audi's, their build quality is far up there. I really could not believe how solid and well put together everything is. Anyways, interior:

-303 Spot Cleaner , then APC mix, and extracted for carpets and mats

-Costco APC cut 10:1 to clean leather, vinyl, rubber, and plastic

-4* Leather Conditioner on the seating

-Adam's VRT on vinyl, rubber, plastic

-AIO/OCW in jams

The exterior was lightly swirled and had a bunch of R.I.D.S (Random Isolated Deep Scratches). I did my best to buff them out. There were some markings on the coated plastic that AIO took away. Final processes:

-Eagle 1 Wheel Acid cut 50/50 with water to clean rims

-Eagle 1 Wheel Cleaner cut 50/50 with water to clean tires/wells

-Followed by NXT wash

-AIO/OCW on rims

-BnB on tires

-Hyper Dressing in wells

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-FK1 185 (Quick Gloss Sealant Glaze) via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm ...This product is VERY similar to Klasse AIO with a bit more bite. More on this once I use it more.

-Meguiar's # 20 by hand

-Klasse AIO to clean all lower coated plastic (light grey), then Optimum Protectant to shine/protect

-Klasse AIO to clean/protect windows, lighting, and trim

Next up, Land Rover Defender 90.

One of the few vehicles that actually appreciates over time. Bought for $30k in 1994 (orig owner) and worth about 40k now, according to the owner. This truck was as rugged as they come. He added a few nice additions to it :). No interior shots as the whole thing was sprayed with Rhino Lining :). Exterior final processes:

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT wash as lube

-Unknown Compound via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm (oxidation and heavy swirling)

-Meguiar's #66 via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Natty's by hand

-Adam's Detail Spray to touch up

-Meguiar's Trim Detailer on most exterior plastic

-Hyper Dressing on the rest

-#66 to clean/protect all brush bars/bumpers/lighting

-Eagle 1 Wheel Acid cut 50/50 with water to clean rims

-Eagle 1 Wheel Cleaner cut 50/50 with water to clean tires/wells

-Followed by NXT wash

-Natty's on rims

-Hyper Dressing on tires and in wells

Next up, Land Rover LR3

Have to say, the quietest SUV I've ever been in. This thing was vault tight with gadgets out the ying yang. Had some rotary holograms from the dealer and had only been washed once since bought 3 months ago :(. Interior processes:

-303 Spot Cleaner , then APC mix, and extracted for carpets and mats

-Costco APC cut 10:1 to clean leather, vinyl, rubber, and plastic

-4* Leather Conditioner on the seating

-Adam's VRT on vinyl, rubber, plastic

-Jams were degreased then OCW'd

*No dressing on the mats because I got a tip that the matts were too slippery. For next time, I am cutting the Hyper Dressing more with water.

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-Menzerna FPII via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm (x 2 on the hood)

-Menzerna FMJ by hand

-Adam's VRT on all plastic trim and vinyl winch cover

-Klasse AIO/FMJ on lighting and roof

-Eagle 1 Wheel Acid cut 50/50 with water to clean rims

-Eagle 1 Wheel Cleaner cut 50/50 with water to clean tires/wells

-Followed by NXT wash

-AIO/FMJ on rims

-BnB on tires

-Hyper Dressing in wells

Beautiful home BTW :)

Last up, my car.

FK1 PW x 3 on there and wanted to spit shine, correctly. I put my Adam's Detail Spray in the fridge along with my Trade Secret and proceeded to wash and dry. I then misted the DS on the panel and MF applicator, dipped the applicator in TS, applied, waited 30 seconds, misted the DS on the panel, and removed. The results were instant depth that actually improved over an hour or two. I was very happy with the results. It seemed to make the Trade Secret stay more on the surface (hid some imperfections) and spread like warm butter.

That's all for a bit :).

:bow Such excellent work! Not that I expect anything less out of you Sean. You continue to impress me not only with the quality of the work but your creative combinations and techniques. You should seriously consider a full time career in detailing. :)

:bow

Absolutely beautiful work Sean. I like the new LR3...you can see some of the BMW engineering influence in its quality construction and quiet noise levels.

The wheels on your TEG are looking awesome. :)

That black was like a mirror. Unbelievable work. Great job.

DO you have any problems w/ holograming anymore, or have you mastered the rotary technique? I notice in everyone of your details, the rotary is set on 1500. Have you found this to be the most optimal setting to reduce holograms and paint burn. I haven't used my rotary yet but I look forward to becoming a pro at it soon. Any recommendations or things you wish you would have known when you first begfan detailing w/ a rotary?

JJ

Great work as usual Sean. I am so jealous of you because of that Defender, I have wanted one for years.

Top notch! :xyxthumbs

Your rotary skillz do rock! For the life of me, I still get holograms.

Scott's right, if we lived in a year round detailing climate (unless you had a shop), you'd have one helluva career.

Both you and Joe are big on the 50/50 acid mix. Must be a time saver. I may hvae to check that out.

Great work :)

Sean I hope your bringing one of those bottles to share with me at the poorboy's meet. I can't comment on your job yet because i'm on dial up and it's xing me out ... VERY SLOW. Anyways I'm glad that i was able to hook ya up and I can't wait for ya to try those DP samples I gave ya.... Use them up man..

Patrick

PS this makes five cars I have sent your way...I'm working my way to a freebie for me...

Thanks everyone :).

Scott: I've heard that a lot lately...back to the drawing board :D.

As far as the rotary goes...No matter what paint, with FPII, a LC Polishing Pad on the rotary @ 1500 rpm leaves a hologram free finish. I'm extremely happy this polish exists :).

Joe: With patience and concentration :). I didn't have any tape but I am very steady on the rotary now so no problems here, but it does test you ;).

Patrick: I'll bring a bottle for the lunch break :p.

Sean, you da man. Always great work. The Land Rover had a real striking comparison. I looked at the Audi wheels and they did not look bad in the before picture. Yesterday you helped with the PB's wheel sealant, today please tell me about the "Eagle 1 Wheel Acid cut 50/50 with water". I have some spots on the insides that are not bad but do not come off with regular wheel cleaners. Is it okay to use the EO with clear coated wheels? or should I start with something milder first? it is called acid.

Woo hoo...i'm ready for about six coats of zaino pretty soon...i'm moving back to CT tomorrow and will call ya shortly!

I'm interested in the wheel acid, as well... I know I said I'd pass for the time being, but... who can resist clean wheels? :D

Very nicely done, all around (of course). That interior spray job you mentioned sounds interesting - no pictures?

I think I'm going to have to break down and get a rotary soon... This whole PC thing is great and all, but I want to transform some finishes without all the time and effort the PC takes.

Again, nice work and more about this wheel acid and its clearcoat compatibility would be appreciated.

Great work, Sean! I experienced no hologramming with FPII/LC white as well. Thanks for reminding me - I'll switch back to this combo instead of #80/W-8000.

Question though: why use AIO on trim?
