More on Micro Restore

The Rainmaker
After a few uses of this product, I think maybe it is of more value in cleaning MF towels than many people give it credit for.
I know it has been said that it is nothing but "A shop degreaser with a foaming agent added." and while that may be true, it seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning MF towels.
The foaming agent added statement also may be true, but the Micro Restore I use doesn't foam.
This statement is incorrect. If you shake the bottle, it does foam. When in a wash tub of water and dirty towels, the foam or sudsing wasn't noticeable when I used the MR before. I will try to pay more attention the next time I do a load. Since I usually just throw in the towels, start the hot water filling the tub and add the detergent, I rarely ever check to see what is happening. I just kind of figure that the soap and the machine can take it from there. :)

Since I have been using it, a few things I have noticed.
1. The towels come clean without the need for pre-soaking which did not happen with regular laundry detergent.
2. So far, I have not felt the need for adding vinegar to a second rinse to remove any soap residue or soften the towels.
I'm not 100% sure just what the vinegar rinse is supposed to accomplish. I understand the vinegar helping remove the soap residue, but unless removing the soap residue makes the towels softer, I don't quite understand how the vinegar would actually soften them.
The latest load I washed, I eliminated the second rinse entirely. The towels looked and felt the same, but I don't really know that they are.
3. The washer tub will sometimes have a dirty ring around it at the water level after using the Micro Restore. It is bad enough that I wiped the tub and the agitator with an APC after washing a load with Micro Restore.
This did not happen with any of the regular laundry detergents I used in the past.
Anyone else have this happen?
Does this mean the MR has removed more dirt/wax/grease that was deposited on the tub?
Or does it mean the MR doesn't keep the dirt/wax/grease in suspension so it is drained away with the dirty wash water?
Also, if you buy the Micro Restore by the gallon, the cost difference is negligible. If you take into account the cost of whatever product you use for a pre-soak and the cost of the vinegar for the second rinse, it's probably a toss-up. (Almost said it was a wash, but....:))
Anyway, I have no regrets about buying the Micro Restore.

I agree that Micro-Restore is a good product. I have not noticed the ring around the tub, but then I have a front loading machine so it is more difficult to see in there. A bottle of the Micro-Restore seems to last a long time for me, but then I'm not a pro needing to wash daily either. I figure it is worth it since the MF's cost so darn much. I also have the Pinnacle MF soap which is more expensive and seems to me to work the same as the Micro-Restore.

Thanks for the update and info Charles. I haven't used the product yet, so I can't comment on your questions.

I stated here (I think it was here?) long ago that I felt it was superior to regular wash soap. I'm glad that others are finding the same to be true. The few times I had "ring around the washer" was when the towels were extremely dirty or when I washed pads from the Cyclo or PC. Yep, it works on those as well.....not one problem to date with the pads.

I bought two gallons on sale about a year ago and am just now getting towards the bottom of the first jug. Obviously the amount used depends on how often you wash but so little is needed that I think it's a bargain. The towels, some five years old, continue to remain soft and absorbent. It works for me without a doubt.

Here's a Micro-Restore trick that I've been using just recently. I'll put my finger under a stain on the MF and put it over the mouth of the M-R bottle then tip until wet. Throw it in the washer. In fact I've used it for a spot remover on clothes. Works great.

I just washed a bathtub load full of microfibers using advice from this forum. I used Murphy's pine tar oil soap, filled the bathtub with hot water and added the Murphy's then threw in about 150 microfibers. I occasionaly agigated them with a huge industrial size whisk that I have, about 2 1/2 feet high. I actually wanted them to soak and release any detergent, etc. Then, I washed them in the machine three times, no soap, just rinse. I have a huge capacity front loader, so they all fit in one load (barely). I think that after all that, they are all softer and cleaner. I really scoured the bathtub out first, though. I used a full 48 oz. bottle of Murphy's.

The ring around the tub was the main reason I started soaking my MFs in Dawn some time ago. I would get the ring with both regular detergent and Micro Restore. The dirtier (more oils or wax) the towels the worse the ring. Since I don't like having to clean the washing machine prior to my wife using it. I continue to pre-soak my towels. FWIW ... I do not see much difference in the towels between All Free and Clear and Micro Restore. Just my experience
