More marketing ideas

Most of you know that in any successful business marketing is a key factor. Here is my latest indevor. I contacted a local newspaper with a mailing reach of around 50,000 homes. I talked to the editor for about an hour selling myself and how I thought it would benefit his readers to have a question and answer section in his paper on car care. I convinced him on the idea and now it's underway. Here is the nice part. It is costing me ZERO! In exchange for my time ( which is nothing compared to the exposure I will get) I get to promote my services as long as answer the questions people write in. My first article was mostly an introduction on my business, along with offering a few tips. Here are the questions that are coming in to me so far. What is a clay bar? What does mirco fiber do? I thought today's finishes didn't need any wax because of the clear coat? This is a sample of how the public just doesn't get information on proper car care. if you are a pro, you can do the same thing, don't be afraid to talk to editors of newspapers, magazines, business people on the idea of educating the public. Detailing is a subject that almost everyoneis interested in, most knows little about. Good Luck, if you want a copy of my article send me a pm with your address and I will send you a copy. Gary

Very nice!

Marketing is something that should never be overlooked. If you don't find more creative ways of marketing, you will be failing soon.

And you used one of the best marketing tactics around....."Word of Mouth".

This technique is free and is proven to work.

Good job on that!

Good idea Gary! You'll surely get lots of new customers from the area that this paper reaches. It will be obvious that you know what you're doing.

Gary you are a marketing genius. Did you just call the paper and ask to speak to the editor? If so, what was your approach?

BRwill2005, I'm not any genius, but I do have a sincere passion for my work and I'm proud of what I have acheived. Someone once told me that if you love what you do success will follow. Their is truth in that statement because I eat/think/talk/ and plan my world around detailing and I'm constantly searching for new ways to market my business. To answer your question on how I approached the editor. It was really simple. Since I have already done some creative things, I simply talked about some of these topics along with expressing my desire to pass on solid information on car care to the public. It didn't take long for him to realize their is a need, (planting the seed) I sold him on the fact I was the right person for the job (watching the seed grow) When I targeted the female editor for the all female population I let her know that women need to know just like men about car care, and I can be that avenue to get it to them. Marketing and saletogo hand in hand/ Once you establish yourself, go after something, pick anything. I started out knowing I wanted to detail high end cars, so I went after a Lamborghini dealership. Now I do all the paint seal for them. anyone can do this, I'm not that smart. Tonight I went to a Cruise night where their were 150 cars. every car got one of my fliers in their car. Even if they don't call me, they will know I exsist. I figure, someday they will need a pro. Gary

Gary- Thanks for the tips. I just recently begain detailing full time. Like you, I love detailing and cars in general. I also am attempting to target "high end" vehicle owners. I have also thought about approaching the Ferrari dealership in my area. I consider myself a very good detailer, but I think I have a lot to learn about marketing. Thanks for sharing your marketing tips with the rest of us.
