PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
:wow: THIELE truck bodies just announced that they will be laying off and possibile closing! they are about 10 min. from where i live. another company going under. went to a somerset,pa job fair today. put about 5 resumes in for different companys. doing the best i can. no job yet. a few good leads. our local news is so depressing.:(

our curent status...

Johnstown, PA Economy at a Glance

i must be missing something according to the chart thing have been stable and in some cases improved!!!

I have family friends (long retired) in PA. They tell me the economy there is the worst they've even seen it. And they've been there a long time. :wall

It is not the high cost of living that gets everyone(including me) it is the cost of living high.

Look at Iceland. That whole country is about to go bankrupt. Fishing is one of the more important industries and they are not able to sell their fish for Icelandic money in Britain. Without money they cannot import the needed supplies or worse yet the workers to aid in production of stuff they no longer can afford to produce. The normal family has two or three cars and now wants to sell two. Funny...no one is buying. Kind of like the way I felt when I tried to sell the Black truck of mine after almost a year of trying.

cw ..we are all very spoiled compared to certain areas of the world where having food is the sign of prosperity :passout:

People.....turn off your TV's and go out and spend money. Continue to go as you did 2 months ago. The government doesn't need to stimulate the economy but rather people need to go out and stimulate it by purchasing goods.

Lately I've not been able to watch the news. It is just too depressing. A friend of mine was laid off on Friday along with about 800 of her co-workers. This happened shortly after I sent her my resume in case she knew of any openings.

The story indicates that this is a labor dispute, not that the company is cutting back due to a total lack of work.

 agree. the way the news presented it was vauge. now that i read into it, it most certianly sounds like a dispute.

for sure. kind of glad i was not working there. got a offer from a job service friday. did not commit yet. only problem is that its about 36 miles away. geeze. i drove that area for about a week before, and it took about $10/day in gas. i am by no means ungratefull, but would like something closer. the offer is a concrete manufacture. and...i can't imagine that drive in the winter. oh well, guess i'll call them monday with a answer.

on a side note, i did attend the somerset PA job fair thursday. dropped about 5 resumes. if the employers were not so pickey in the area, maybe some of us would do good by them. according to our paper, it did not go well....
The Tribune Democrat, Johnstown, PA - Somerset job fair comes up short

I've lost 40% of my wealth this year and 70% since our fearless leader took office. I believe I will be hanging on to what little cash I have left.

As have I lost in the stock market but that's the name of the game.....it's a risk, a gamble. It can pay off well and you can lose your butt also.

Bush is not the issue here because the seeds of this down turn were set before he took office. Businesses fail, new ones take its place and many times it's better. The economy tanks every few years and comes back stronger but I feel it should of been left to fail instead of the 700 billion buy out because capitalism should be allowed to work.

So personally I am spending money, not crazy like, but I am still going on like I was a few months ago. Buying supplies as I need them, upgrading my computer soon and perhaps tomorrow buying a new digital camera because the prices are so cheap.

Don't panic people, shop smart but don't freak out.

Anthony

yes the gas cost could certainly dig into you

funny part is that when i called the job service back, she was a bit taken. she came off like that's not to far.
she replied "ok, some drive it some don't" yea, i wonder if she would drive 45 miles? not. on a lighter note, a company thats 3 miles away is looking for wire harness assemblers. i just e-mailed them my resume. :bigups
