Money sure doesn't buy brains...

One good thing came out of this guy's thread, I followed through Scottwax's post on another board and registered here on autopia. :D

You guys should go back and re-read the crap that's being posted here because you sound like a bunch of high school kids instead of professionals! The man did what he said he could do, and the results look pretty good. If his process and methods aren't sound, then that should be explained without the personal attacks. Most people come here to learn from the pros, not to hear a bunch of kids complain about someone misspelling a word in their post. This thread should be closed as it is a black mark on the reputation of Autopia and the professionals who post here!

I think he was the one who started name calling if I'm not mistaken. Plus, I as a newb kind of took it at heart that he called a Porter Cable "crap for the man of the home to save time putting on wax". Not only that, but he's saying that one should start off with a rotary? Even I with my limited knowledge and from what I've learned here know that a rotary should only be handled by someone who has experience. The advice he is giving is misinformation, hell, even some people in that thread have stated that rotarys should be left for those with experience. Additionally, I would question his experience because of the video he put up. He was using too much product AND then he says that the pad is black because it's dirty? Looks like inexperience to me.

BTW, I'm glad I've known of this site for a few years :) There is vast knowledge at this site for those who seek it :)

The one guy in the other thread said it best: everyone has too much credibility vested in this to every come to an agreement or to find the truth.

I know what I know. I also know that every miracle product and every deviation from common sense has faded into the noise while the basic principles have remained sound throughout. If someone wants to follow the deviation, more power to 'em; if it doesn't work, they'll be back.

But remember, experiments like these will either reinforce what is known or expand what is known; EITHER result is good.

Let it go. If it is worthy, it will prevail, and if it isn't, it won't.

Did I mention it would sure be nice to be able to post something over there? I mean almost 3 days now and I still haven't gotten the "OK" to post something, what does it take....an act of Congress? Male first born...?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the mods on the M5 forum have been monitoring this thread and have a private conversation going on where they decided to hold off on approving new folks from here for fear of starting a flame war.

Just got this nice PM..and so it's verified I took an image of my screen..I did send a message to a moderator however I rarely get a response when I do because Im sure they have a lot of messages to go through...but im sure Tort will see this thread because he's pretty good of following them closely..or Prinz as well.

Is this guy ever going to get banned? Any mods PM me for further information if you need it.

I can see complaining about a bad dealer passing bad information on but, geez guys you don't think this is the only guy out there do ya? Are we going to become the detailing police of the internet joining boards to monitor the information others put out there? I can see people who were already members of that board getting involved but, people from here joining the other board just to get involved in the debate is above and beyond. Personally I think this thread has lowered the credibility of Autopia several notches...

Proposal for new Autopia banner...

It is not that I don't agree with you guys regarding this so called "professional" but, I think a lot of you have taken this wayyyyy too far :o

doged: It’s obvious you’re a young guy with a big mouth and no b***. Let’s stop playing your teenage games. PM me your real name and phone number. I will tell you how I really am. Your not going to be very happy when you find out but that your problem. LOL

Money obviously doesnt buy him brains either...Man I pissed off the Godfather :( I always wanted to meet him too :wall Is this guy ever going to get banned?

I'm not taking sides, but the proper way to handle this is through the moderators. If you think about it, there's no way for people on the forum to verify this, but the moderators can verify it.

You hit it right on the head. I believe there's enough information out there for everyone to decide (of course you do have to break out the search function). I have my techniques, they have theirs - If it works then fabulous, if it doesn't then I refine even further.

This thread amazes me, and I don't think it is a good reflection on "Autopia".

Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. If you are among the ones who are so concerned that it's being done wrong, then make your own video and show people how to do it right.

Personally, it's none of my business what people are doing elsewhere, so I don't even bother to go look.

Maybe I should put a new feature on the home page called "Look Who's Talking" and show all of the hot detailing threads on other forums.

Or, maybe we need "Autopia Factor" ... "As The Buffer Spins"... this thread sounds like a bunch of house wives.

Good grief!

Oh, yeah... Josh, thanks for the post on Doged. I'm sick and tired of his BS, too. He's otta here!

Well said DavidB......and exactly why I keep coming back to your board year after year and trust the advice of so many members here. Autopia and it's members are better than this.

I've learned so much from this site.....as Mosca had so brilliantly said, "Let it go. If it is worthy, it will prevail, and if it isn't, it won't." Exactly why this site is what it is......because it's full of worthy information and professional, informative people, not a bunch of fanboyz who love to start pissing matches on the internet.

Now I'll put my soapbox back into the closet. :o

I read that some said the lexus comes with single stage paint. This means no clear-coat right?

But that is an ES which is a new model(<5 years old), and what car doesn't come with clear-coat these days?

I'd say the black stuff on the pad is the result of him buffing thru the clear-coat and eating the black paint!

Now, good luck to the lexus owner!

What? You guys are STILL talking about this?

A lot of false information on the net. Let people learn the hard way. The easy route isn't always the best route.

Personally, I doubt that.

Really, unless you are standing there along with the guy while he's working, you can't draw any conclusions. Internet photos are inconclusive. All we have is a situation that needs more description and explanation. And pictures are not the same as the actual vehicle. I'd say at the minimum you'd need an ir thermometer, a paint thickness gauge, and a gloss meter to adequately gather enough data. Digital pictures won't do it.

Again, in the end it's pointless. If the guy's right, eventually his way will become the standard, as rotary users everywhere will be happy to be less careful and work faster to get great results. If he's wrong, his methods will pass. Next.
