Mom's '01 Corolla

Detailed for her belated Mother's Day gift:

For whatever reason, I kept forgetting to take pics when I had ever intention of doing so. I was too caught up w/ the task @ hand.

Car hasn't been washed in forever. There was still leftover winter dirt on it. Car is garaged and is basically an "old lady car".

Swirls in the sun (actually worse than what I captured in this shot)

Door before correction:

Door after correction:

Passenger fender corrected (this came out really nicely)

...and a couple of exterior shots after completion:

Method:

Megs Deep Crystal wash

Mother's Pre-Wax Cleaner

Claybar

Megs #9

Menz SIP for the gnarlier stuff

Nu-Finish (yes, NuFinish--it has to last a year)

Megs Ultimate QD

Zymol protectant on tires

Vac & light cleaning of interior

Do you actually think Nu-Finish lasts a year :LOLOL

So when the water beaded up on it after not being washed or waxed since June of '08 it must've been my imagination. On a garaged car that stuff will bead up for a LONG time.

Stop being such an elitist. I've used it on my wife's CR-V for 10 years now and it holds up for a solid 6 months. The car hasn't faded one bit.

Have you tried the NuFinish Cling detailer? Over on BITOG forums the NuFinish users seem to really like topping NuFinish with the Cling QD to bring up the gloss to a more traditional level.

Did you use the paste or liquid?

Cheap, efficient and reliable as an anvil.

I didn't even know they had a QD. I've been happy w/ how Megs evens it out, but I'd be curious to try theirs for the helluvit.

I used the liquid.

If my math is correct, 6 mos. is 1/2 of a year.

Wow. And if your reading is correct, you'd see that the Corolla was beading after a year and that the CR-V is a different car from the Corolla. It was a second example.

The CR-V gets done in the Fall and in the Spring and is a car I used as another example of NuFinish not being as bad as people think. It's far from a pretty finish, but it definitely provides extended protection to paint--as evidenced by the deep blue that my wife's CR-V is still displaying after 10 years and 200k miles.

I'm thinking my winter wax combination will be Turtle Wax Ice Paste, on top of Nu Finish Paste. But I'd very intrigued if the combination of Nu Finish Paste + Cling QD looks as glossy as a non nufinish car wax.

...and IMHO, that's what these products are ideal for. For those of us who go 4-6 months without waxing a car (during an average miserable winter) these simple OTC one-steps can be pretty damn effective.

My daily driver tends to stay covered in salt from January to March. It might get washed a few times. Too cold to even touch up w/ a QD.

I wrote to Eagle 1 asking for coupons and a free MF towel, and the CSR recomended using the Nanowax Spray in the winter since according to him it can be applied in cold conditions.

That's important if you just has your washed in an automatic tunnel wash, and want to restore some of the protection.
