Well I quoted a lady on a 97-98 Mitsu Eclipse Convert after seeing the car last night, I knew it was pretty marred and the carpets were a mess(blk on tan cloth)upon inspection this afternoon when it was dropped off I pulled the seats foward and the carpets are covered in mold. Besides the difficulty and time to remove the mold, there are health risks along with the risk of it returning(which is a pretty good risk since the tops in those leak)

Should I A) bite the bullet and just do it

B) explain that there are extra factors involved and it will cost more and there is a risk of it not taking care of the problem

C) bow out gracefully after explaining the complications

Also, I have removed small sections of mold before, which I believe have been successful, but any tips on removing a x2 10" x 14" sections

Go with B , explain the risk involved and the cost too. Let her know before you touch it..........

By no means am I a detailing pro but I cannot see the health risks being worth it.

Clay, I've had this issue a few times before. I usually call the client back before any work is performed and inform them of the mold issue then quote a new price. If the mold is too severe to guarantee 100% removal, I will simply bow out of the job and refer them to a specialist. Your issue with this client is if the mold is underneath the seats/carpet/padding. It will be very labor intensive to remove all possible fabric that may be infested.

Never bite the bullet and just do it. You do not want to be responsible if the mold returns and your time is not free.

Great advice, I was leaning more on choice C, but I hate going back on a quote, I will usually find a way to get it done then make it up somewhere else but this is not a 1-2 hour mis quote, more like a day

I do not like going back on a quote either, but there are certain circumstances where you need to be firm about your time. This is one of them.

agree 100%, it is completely different than another polishing step, or some tar that was overlooked

I got sick for a week for vacuuming moldy carpet ,so it can certainly be a risky business removing mold and is going to cost her,I would wear a decent respirator/mask to do the job.
