Mobile Paint Repair - Why it typically sucks!

Ahh it all looks fine!!!!!!! THIS what's called a 20/20 job. The real life 100% type of job. Remember people he was prob getting ****** pay to begin with and if he passed on it another would have jumped on it!

I don't think anything is wrong - it looks perfect. He can come work on my car anytime. I'll also let him drink my beer and do my g/f if he'd like :)

I hate mobile repairs. The customers don't even realize they are getting a quarter of the work for half the price. There is a guy doing mobile repairs in my area, and he vinyl paints with no preparation. OVER CONDITIONER. He has been getting away with it for years. It makes me sick.

He actually painted & repaired some leather seats for me a couple years ago. The stitches broke when I sat down, and the paint started peeling just one week after.

I got about 5 minutes worth of clean seats... for about $75.00

Then I had to strip the mess.

I am 1 of those guys that you guys just hate, but I pass on every job bigger than half a bumper. In my opinion anything larger than that looks like sh**. That job, especially on such a high end car, should have been done inside. Now with that being said, if the person would not have painted the quarter on that MBZ, the Used Car Manager would have somebody else to do it.

Face it guys - this kind of hack, keeps us all in business. A large part of my business is repairing cigarette burns in cloth seats. 40% of the time I run into people putting RTV into a burn & sprinkling with fibers. What happens when the RTV cures? Thats right, it shrinks. I get called in to fix the burn correctly. This type of scenario is how we all stay busy.

Burns, overspray, swirl marks, they are all awesome!

We're those guys too, to an extent although we specialise in stone-chips etc... and like automedix we stick to bumper corners and small areas with our blending because the bigger stuff is best left to a full bodyshop.

So long as you don't take on too much and use quality products (properly) the results can be to a very high standard. Having said that we do tend to take our small area/blend repairs into a booth whenever possible because the finish is much better and customers appreciate it.

Regulations restrict painters in NZ from spraying large areas ouside of a controlled environment but there will always be cowboys who push the limits.

Much as we try not to fall into the cowboy bracket there's always someone with a flasher set-up who will point the finger though. it's all a matter of perspective.

Look at the bright side.... It could have been a rattle can job... a couple runs here and there like they sometimes do on Wheeler Dealers!

I used a mobile repair service called chips away on a bumper scuff, after a year the repaired area looked crap. I never used a service like this before so did not know what to expect.

I had to use a body-shop www.carbodyrepairs4less.co.uk in the end to rectify what they had done. it cost me more than I wanted but the result was amazing and still is to this day a year on.

I wouldn't use a smart repair service again even if you paid me. How can you get a great finish from spraying outside? I don't think you can.

I am not sure if it was painted outside or put there after. The back bumper difference looks like it might be a shadow from the paper on the trunk?

This entire repair was done outdoors and in a couple of hours. Make no bones about it.....this is unacceptable work.

this hurts the real BODYSHOPS. But we still get the occasional car from people getting their cars hacked in parking lots etc.
