Mobile Detailing while in college

Well I read the previous posts about the kid who wants to drop out of high school to detail colleges. But what I want to do is stay in school and run a mobile detail business on the side. My question is hypothetically, if I started getting a lot of customers, could I sit back and hire a few people to do the work for me and pay them an hourly fee? Sounds like a dumb question but I am unsure.

if you can afford it, trust them to do quality, and still make a profit from it, then you are RUNNING a business, not OPERATING it....do you want to do the work, or do you want to sit on the beach everyday and just make phone calls.....its your choice....

im in college right now I detail on the side, make alright money but i would never ever drop out to detail. I love detailing but the value of school is more then dollars and cents, its an experiance. Also an eductaion pays so if he enjoys detailing then i would say get a good education, become learned and then you have the ability to raise start up capital as well as you can go to school to learn the skills needed to be your own boss. Well just my 2 cents

It sounds like you are asking what you should do if you get more customers than you can handle since you are in college and you only have limited time to do car detailings.

If that is the situation then you could simply just keep raising your prices. That is the easiest and of course the most profitable way of dealing with the problem of getting too many customers too quickly. Just raise your prices and the demand will begin to slow down.

The idea of raising your prices in order to slow demand is one of the most often overlooked solutions to the problem of taking on too much work too quickly. Unfortunately, not many detailers fully understand the concept of raising prices and making more profit in order to control demand.

Of course, if you are looking for what you think would be an easy way to make money, while other people do all of the work, then go ahead, hire a few people and see what happens.
