mobile detailers and credit cards

treo is made by Handspring AKA Palmone. The website I log onto is my own but with a payment option page that I have. But about the fees They re the same. Also about the carrier I use Sprint becaus eof their unlimited data plan($15.00) Cheaper than most. I also want to add that I also use PAyPAl as another option to whomever prefers it.

I do paypal with my Sprint phone out on the job too. I just use the data cable to connect it to my laptop and let them get online from there.

I don't think that a detailer wearing khakis and a polo is going to get my business actually. This is dirty work and I don't know that business casual attire is appropriate for deatailing. Wearing the same clothes you would wear to the office to go detailing doesn't show good common sense in my opinion. I want the guy working on my car to be a logical sort of fellow. Blue jeans and a t-shirt are my detailing wardrobe. Either jeans or my cargo shorts. They are far more utilitarian than dress slacks. You would look nice, but its just not a good work outfit unless you aren't detailing very dirty cars. I don't want to look like I am detailing on my lunch break from the office. lol No offense intended for those who do, but as long as you don't look like you just walked out of a Metallica concert and be all grungy when you show up on the job, but I don't see anything wrong with dressing in something a little more appropriate for the job. You can look nice and stil be in clothes that aren't going to be ruined if you rub against the tire or if you spill something on yourself.

You don't live in SoCal do you? :) Out here, image is everything. When I stood out in the lot of a mortgage company and detailed vehicles in jeans and a t-shirt, people put their noses up at me. When I began dressing more closely to the way they do, they are much more likely to stop by and talk. If they stop by and talk, I am much more likely to get a detailing appt out of it than if they walk on by.

But don't get me wrong, I am not wearing Tommy brand pleated khakis...They are more like tan cargo pants.

Oh, and as a temporary solution, I have begun accepting Paypal also. Until I get my website interface together which will allow me to accept credit cards through paypal, people just forward funds to the account attached to my business email addy.

What it comes down to is not what WE (the detailers) think, it's what the customer thinks and percieves. That's the bottom line. What's good for one set of customers might not be good for another. You have to do what the majority of the customers want & expect. JMHO.

I use squareup.com on my iPhone

A % charge on the transaction and no monthly fee.
Slide the card and it emails the buyer an invoice.

They sign the invoice with their finger on the iPhone screen

You can even include a picture of the detail on the emailed invoice.

How long has this been out?
Equipment.?
I was thinking of adding paypal but wasn't sure on fees. Plus separate account for security.

Another positive vote comes from me with regards to Square... I love it! Comes in so handy on the off chance that a customer wants to pay via credit card.

With the endorsements this is something to look into. Thanks Merlin on your response.
It will save having to wait if the client doesn't have a company check for their company DD. I do it only for regulars and trust isnt an issue but it's nice to get paid on delivery.
Does anyone know the fee costs involved?

After you register on-line w/squareup, download the app to your phone.
The next item you need to do is link squareup to your bank account.
Squareup makes two small deposits into your account for validation.

There are no sign up or monthly fees. I believe the transaction fee is:
2.75% when you slide the card
3.25% if it's manually entered on your phone keypad
but I'm not 100% sure, best to check on the squareup.com website

Wow I had no idea all that existed with the apps, etc. If I ever get into this full time I think I would definatly at least offer the CC payment option.
