Microsoft Edge popup scam

Just fell for a scam on my computer. They make it look like a warning coming from MS. I called the number that flashes with the popup and got scammed. Bad.
Waiting for my son to remotely access to help me remove this thing.
The popup remotely accessed with my help of course.
Now gotta cancel CCs. Change bank account, I turned off my card.
Feel stupid.
When they asked for 500. I knew I was screwed !

That`s a bummer Mary!

Malwarebytes is a free software offering that`s excellent for removing crap like this from your computer.

Sorry this had to happen, Mary..

Did you go do a Ctrl Alt Delete key function to start the Task Manager ?
Then click "show all processes"
Then scroll through them, find that one, and hit "end process" and it will go away..
Then go through your "programs" and see if its still there and "uninstall" it..

Whenever I accidently hit something that starts all those alarms things, I always go to the Above and kill the process immediately and its gone..
So far, no one has ever been able to hold my laptop hostage... :)
But I really try to just stay far away from anything that is "too good to be true".. :)

I also use Microsoft`s own scan programming (Microsoft Security Essentials) once a week to scan the entire hard drive and detect stuff.. It takes a little over an hour or so, but it has never found anything I need to be worried about..
I let microsoft`s stuff into my Firewall to help stop that stuff as well..

Sorry to hear that as well Mary. It won`t be much consolation, but we deal with similar situations at work several times a week. The victims have been out hundreds to thousands of dollars. I would second SGM2008`s recommendation on MalwareBytes as well as Dan`s recommendation for MS Security Essentials as a baseline. There are other options out there, but those two free ones will go a long way. Just make sure the malware is completely gone. I do IT work as part of my job and have seen folks come back after they were victimized a second time because the malware wasn`t completely deleted.

P.S. I can`t stand MS Edge. With all of their resources, why doesn`t MS develop a better browser/media/all-in-one? IE has it`s fair share of headaches too.

Thanks guys, one and all !
I will be using all this advice.

My son did alot that I really didn`t understand, great to have an IT Administrator for a son ;)
I think they were after money and passwords. We found a password protector and remote access point downloads from them.
They came in through Ad ware, now have a new Adware and Pop-up blocker.
The thing is, I have Norton security on my Chrome, and when I went into MS Edge.. bammm !
I thought I broke my new computer, was a flashing Red full screen, with a voice over the speakers screaming " Alert Alert !"

Well back to changing passwords (took the day off to get it done)
Then .. MalwareBytes and MS Security Essentials. (might delete MS edge as much as possible)

My father fell for one who claimed to be from Comcast. They needed to update his security. Which is thru Comcast Xfinity. Dad helped him remote in to his computer. He went about his business and came back to the computer 30mins later a could see the guy logged on to bestbuy. Trying to buy gift cards, totaling $2000. He pulled the plug on the machine and modem. Went and bought a new modem and changed his network password. Called and changed all his cards, changed passwords etc. etc. Fast forward 2days later. He turned on his computer and steps out to get a drink. Comes back to see his computer flashing something on the screen. It`s a statement! "Hi A$$ Hole. Thought I was gone." Lets just say he wasn`t happy. He switched to a MAC that day.
