Microfibre VS. Terry towels

While Quick detailing my vehicle with terry towels I noticed some light webbing occuring. Does anyone QD with micro towels? What are your experiences with terry vs. micro? Here what I was doing:



Wet the surface with QD, wipe down with one cloth and buff with another fresh towel. Just about as the surface was dry I could see the swirling occur.



It is VERY light and I may be of the opinion that it was a function of the terry towel. Well anyway, my Klasse should be here by the weekend so I'll do a 1x AIO and a 2x Glaze So that should take care of any swirling from the towel, still irks me though.
 
I use Microfiber towels for almost everything, including QD. IMO terry towels are too rough to be using on paint and cause too many swirls.
 
QDed this past weekend with MF for the first time and it went very smooth. No worries about marking with the MF since its so damn soft. Wont be going back to terry ever.
 
Up until 3 months ago, I always used 100% cotton terry towels for QD. Since then, I've converted to using MF. For me, QD now seems to take less effort and produces better shine without streaking.



Be aware that all MF towels are not created equal. Some towels are great for QD, some are great for wax removal, and some shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car. For QD, you want a very plush towel that doesn't lint when wet.
 
I have a synthetic chamois but have not used it in ..... Dayum when did I use it last?



Mf is pretty much all I have been using for a long time.
 
YIKES!! :scared I can honestly say my cars have never had a chamois on them. IMO there are simply much safer and better performing materials to work with
 
I need some tips from you guys. I am a novice at autocare and I need to learn from the experienced, for I just purchased a car that I am going to care for PERSONALLY and RELIGIOUSLY!:sosad
 
I would pass on a genuine chamois. They're overpriced and they stink. Go with a synthetic chamois. They work well and dont cost as much. Also looks like the big blue drying towel from CMA is popular among the folks here.
 
Try spritzing your terries. A dry terry is mildly abrasive.



Spray it with plain water so it's soft to the touch. The heat will evaporate the excess water. QD as usual.
 
-wiping down your dash lint free (cotton lints white)

-wiping your instrument panel scratch free (cotton on clear plastic may scratch)

-wiping your wood trim, chrome trim and plastic

-cleaning interior windows and mirror (a spritz of water and 1 towel and it shines without chemicals lint free)



-mf towels can last for months if taken care of



-for drying a car it absorbs more water than a terry of the same size can



-decreases chances of scratching during quick detailing



-dust pickup in general (use a cotton cloth and you need something like Pledge) use a mf and you don't even need water.



with any towel cotton or mf it's about quality and trying to keep the quality consistent, that's the most difficult part. Stay away from the "nicsands" on the market.
 
I love my MF's I will never go back to terry cloth towels. They make Qd'ing, wax removal, and interior cleaning sooo much easier. :up
 
My cars are now Zaino'd and I have used 100% cotton towels since the conversion to sealant. My cars are black, notorious for showing any imperfection, and I find no marring.

I have tried MF and find them good for small detailing but for polish removal and QD'ing 100% cotton all the way. They just seem to work better. :nixweiss The marring that you may be witnessing could be a result of not removing all or applying too much QD. You did not mention what type of protection you are using but if it is a sealant cotton should not marr unless the towels are dirty, old, used fabric softener, not 100% cotton, pushing too hard or surface has become contaminated during the polish's drying.

Sal recommends for his system 100% high quality cotton towels. Besides when they become too old to use on my cars I can hand them down to my wife and we can use them as bath towels. ;)
