Microfiber scratching

I've been using what I think are quality MF's (75/25) and I notice micromaring from them if I rub just a little to firm. Is this normal? Do all MF's act like this? I've been using them to remove polish and wax. With light pressure they seem fine, but I have to be very careful. I've gone back to using jersy knit cotton towels to remove most of the wax first, as they will not scratch then the remainder with MF. I'm curious if anyone else is having this problem.

What brand of mfs are these? Did you wash them first before using?

DF Towels natural mfs are paramount at removing wax :up

If you read my thread, "Are you washing your mf towels well enough" I explain why MY mf towels started leaving marks behind. I came to the conclusion that I was dealing with a detergent build up and I wasn't using vinegar in the rinse.

Bill D, I'm not sure on the brand and yes I've washed several times now. Who sells the DF MF's?

Make sure you use a vinegar rinse, and are you drying them on high? If you dry them on high the fibres will melt and they will scratch...

Not to steal some ones thread or anything but im using sonus wunder wash on my sonus mf is that sufficient enough do i still need to use vinager and if so how much and when

Ive never used anything other than laundry detergent, and ive never had any problems.....

So do I and I've never had any either. He's getting microscratches he says so I don't think it's a washing problem I think he's using an inferior towel. Remember, just because it says micorfiber doesn't insure a scratch free shine. Many cheaper brands sold at parts stores or discounters are not very good. I've seen many of the cheapies scratch under only moderate pressure.

Amen!

I'd highly encourage anyone not to skimp on mfs. Get the best possible. Save money on cleaners or dressings. The potential penalty of using an inferior mf--scratching--- is just too great and puts a huge damper on all of your hard work.

You cannot go wrong with brands popular on this site.

Thanks everyone for your input. Even though I bought the MF's from a distributor of quailty products (victoria wax co.) Their MF's are obviously not quality, I should bring this up with them. Which MF's would you recommend purchasing from this site? Once again thanks everyone.

Hi DSVWGLI

I've had good luck with:

http://www.dftowel.com/ (all natural fibres)

http://www.pakshak.com/ (great products, great service, great prices - mention you heard about them on Autopia for a discount)

P.S. I'm surprised to hear that Victoria Wax is still around. Do you use their other products as well?

Cheers,

John (Victoria, B.C.)

Hi John, I've been using their wax and cleanser for a year or so and really like them. Have you used any of their products?

DSVWGLI,

Did you ever do the CD test prior to using these mf's?

Since they scratch your paint they must destroy the CD. That's what theory says. If it scratches your CD, I would proceed very cautiously with the car's paint till I find them safe to use or not. But now I guess its too late.
