microfiber recommendations in Canada

Well, i am tired of getting swirls after all my hard work of polishing and waxing so i am ready to throw out the chamois ( i will probably keep the leather one though) .

Can you guys recommend a microfibre towel that will dry really well and not scratch? I live in Canada, so i may be limited to the availablility of brands. I saw Canadian Tire sells one made by Simoniz - is this one any good ?

thanks,

ps - i love this forum !!

Online, you can get mf from Chris @ e-shine.com. His are pretty good quality (IMO).

The one at CDN. Tire is ok, but pretty big (drying towel). The 5 paks look to be the same as the ones sold @ Wal-Marts in the States. They're ok too. Some people have complained of them scratching their paint. I haven't had the problem (yet) so I don't mind them.

If you want to try a waffle weave without ordering online, I noticed Wal-Mart Canada now has them ($6.88 for 3 white 16x26"). They're in the kitchen towel section. Made in China. Don't know how good they are. Felt fairly heavy.

Are you getting the swirls from drying or from the wax/polish removal? If from the drying, you may want to try 1-mf; 2-blotting the water rather than "rubbing". This may reduce the marring.

Hope this helps!

Now that i think about it more, it might be from removing the polish and wax. I do use cotten terry towels , but they do seem very soft and they are clean - jsut out of the washer from liquid detergent.

Maybe i need recommendations on polishing / waxing towels??

Sometimes "100% cotton" doesn't mean that there isn't polyester in the edging. This can cause marring even if the towel feels soft.

There are lots of articles/comments on which towels to use and why on the various threads here. You'll learn more from them than I'd likely supply in 1 post.

If you want to get some towels that are available in Canada, and (IMO) are of good quality that aren't likely to scratch, contact Chris @ e-shine. There are other vendors (Autopia, Autogeek, Pakshak, poorboys, PAC, etc.) that have good towels, are US based, but will ship to Canada. Take a look around and make a decision based on your research. It may end up that ordering from someplace like Autopia will allow you to combine towels and wax and save on shipping. I've got towels from all but Pakshak (sorry Raney) and none were bad. (Again, IMO)

(I'm guessing you've got a garage, as it's WAY too cold to be towelling off anything but ice from the car here!)

Good luck!

I do have a garage, but the Z is stored now. I do however plan on a top to bottom detail including clay since it's been about 4 years since i have done it last. Therefore i need to determine the root cause of the swirls - and i think it may be a combinations of things. I'll do my research to figure this out.

Thanks for you help!!

Where in Canada are you located? I haven't seen these waffle weaves yet.

This is quite a useful thread- I know there are quite a few of us Canucks lurking here on the board.

I might order some WW's when I place my polish order after xmas, after reading all the good reviews of them over my beloved Absorber.;)

Oops. Sorry Chris. I'm used to looking at international orders, I guess.

Steve:

Any Wal-Mart over 85,000 sq.ft. should have them. (Basically any that isn't in a smaller city). They are a special order right now, as they're seeing how well they sell. The buyer for the domestics line seems to be really trying out the mf products, as they've tried (so far) mf hair towels, "sport" towels, kitchen towels, ww kitchen towels, and mitts (for in the bath).

Most of the lines are special buys, so you'll see them on side displays or the plastic strips hanging on the sides of the aisles (clipstrips). None have "official" homes, so they could be anywhere in any store.

UPC is 89843700005. You can ask a manager to check if they have it instock in your store, or to transfer from another store.

**** I haven't tried them yet, so I don't know if they're crap or not!!****

I've also noticed that SuperStore is carrying regular mf's for under $3.00 in the towelling department. Haven't seen the ww's yet.

93zder, even 100% cotton can scratch, especially visible on dark colours.

I gave up my leather chamois for drying paint...only use it for glass. It won't scratch, per se, but a grain of something can easily get caught between the leather and paint and scratch to it's heart content. It has no where to go.

Apart from that, chamois leather has so much surface grip that the friction it creates will remove much of the wax you've previously applied.

Go WW MF. I couldn't believe how amazing they are until I tried it. Now I don't know how I lived without it.

Have both Pakshak and Autopia WW, and both are excellent! :bigups

I think i will retire my leather chamois to glass only as well. I am thinking the Poorboy's WW MF since it's available locally.

I just read in the Autopia 'manual' that WW can be used for polish and wax removal too - can anyone else confirm this ?

Most MF is multi-purpose - one terry MF can be used for wax application, wax removal, QDing, drying, cleaning, etc.

However, I've found that its best to assign one role per one type (or colour). Sometimes MF used for wax removal can be difficult to clean completely, and effect its performance in other uses.

WW can be used for many tasks, but its specialty is drying. Use it exclusively for that, and it will perform and last for years.

I tried the Simoniz drying MF from CDN Tire and found it micro scratches (stopped using after one panel on a new black car). Might be better if blotting. I do not recommend it and I'm looking to locate good WW MF (even if import from US as long as shipping costs are reasonable).

90% of my supply is from JTinter (ebay seller). If I had to order now, I'd either go with him, pakshak or e-shine (depends on price with shipping costs factored). Most likey pakshak.

For glass, nothing works better than MF. My recommendation is to ditch that chamois.

For paint, nothing dries better than a waffleweave!

The CT/Costco/Walmart brands would be fine for door jams, engine bay, glass etc.

I'd only use high quality ones on the paint and the interior.

Get more then you think and get multiple colours.

i.e.

Green = Glass

Blue = Buffing

Grey = General Purpose

Yellow = Interior

Once I bought a few, I found my fiance wanting them as well for dusting, furniture polishing, mirrors, kitchen counters etc.

Plan on getting a lot them!
