I don't separate mine and I wash them together. I dry them in a dryer on the LOWEST heat setting. You don't have to have separate towels for everything just clean towels for everything. I wouldn't use a towel I just wiped wax off to do my windows. A little thing I do is if the microfiber touches the ground or gets really dirty I take a sharpie and put a big "X" on both sides and that tells me that that towel is not to be used on finished paint. I wash the bad towels separate from the good ones however.

I seperate this way:

- all good quality used/usable on paint for polish/wax removal

- all not-so-good quality not suitable for paint (interiors, door jambs, fenders, wheels)

- all used just for glass (if I don't, I get smearing on glass from polish/wax residue left in towels

just my $.02.

I wash all MF's together and dry normally on a medium dry setting. I sometimes use an absorber like super chamois that I wash separately now because they sometimes throw a little lint like pills.

I wash with Oxi-clean ball (sometimes add a little Oxi-Max) that claims to rinse free. I don't rinse with vinegar or use softener (as everyone knows not to). The towels come out clean and soft. I do have some white WW towels that have become stained - I may need to pre-soak some of my towels before washing.

This, to me, indicates you're not washing your towels properly. There should not be this type of transfer or residue. Are washing in hot water?

Yes, washing in hot water, using Micro-Restore, double rinse.

I don't ALWAYS get smearing... but I am a stickler for perfect glass and glass shows everything in different light. Sometimes I think it might be caused by something else... but I'm doing it to eliminate one possible source of contamination.

The only ones I separate out are my MFs for glass, and that's more a matter of not wanting them contaminated with MF lint than anything else.

My suede-style MFs are obviously different from the plush ones, so they're easy to ID. Most of my plush ones are plusher on one side than the other, so I differentiate good/bad by how I fold them; the good ones get folded with the plush side *in* and the bad ones get folded with the plush side facing *out*. Ones that're plush on both sides get marked the way Danase does it when they're no longer suited for final finishes.

I seperate my towels just for peace of mind...I know its not going to have anything funky on it. Glass, drying, wax, QD (basically the same) but then I do have several "anything" MFs.

i dryed mine on a hot cycle before i founf out you should dry them on low heat are they no good any more?

i hand wash mine in the sink with some laundry detergent. then i hang them and let them air dry. have you ever seen what wax residue can do to a washer? it really messes it up! when i last took about our washer at work there was enough wax build up to wax a couple hundred cars! i would at least suggest of you're goin to wash them in a washer have a seperate one for your clothes.

I *have* a separate washer/dryer setup in the shop, but IMO if you have that kind of build up in the washer basket you're using way too much product ;)

I clean the washer basket every now and then when I see that it needs it and I run an "empty cycle" with a bunch of bleach (wash cycle) and vineger (rinse cycle) now and then after being advised to do so by my service guy. When our household washer broke down I didn't hesistate to wash my custom-tailored (white) dress shirts in the garage washer, no problems at all. FWIW the garage washer is 14 years old, but yeah, I *did* have its basket replaced once. Since then I've just never let it get/stay dirty.
