Are they good for drying (better than a chamois) and for use with wax/polish removal, better than a 100% cotton towel?

What are the downsides to them? Any special tricks to washing them to remove all contaminants?

Thanks

Yes, MF towels are perfect for drying paintwork. As for washing, I presoak them in an oxiclean mixture before use in the washing machine.

we use them, they are great for drying and they absorb alot of water. for removal of wax/polish, i believe they are better than ctton towels.cotton towels leave to much cotton on the vehicles. make sure you have clean ones on hand as you remove wax/polish. they do tend to hold wax in the fibers. we wash them in hot water/ alittle bit of bleach. they are #1 on our list of towels to use.

once you try the WW towels, and MF in general, you'll never go back to your old ways !!

Enjoy.

Are SM-Arnold MF towels any good? They have them in 3-packs at my local Orchard Supply Hardware...

Hard to say, but my guess would be to not use them on your paint, but for interior work, wheels, tires, etc..... they would be ok.

Microfiber towels are far better than cotton towels in every way.

For drying, a microfiber waffle weave towel is superior. :up

I use the absorber for drying my car. Its a great product. I use the MF buffing towel to buff off the wax when im waxing my car.

I've been using 100% cotton for years and have been pondering MF towels. Everyone here is so positive on them and now my curiousity has finally gotten the best of me so I've taken the plunge. I just ordered several of the DF Towels and the wash mitt for use with my Zainoed car. DF is officially approved by Zaino and I'm liking that. When I talked to Sal he recommended them.

Plus, I like the concept of a cotton-based MF towel. I guess I just can't make the mental leap to a totally synthetic MF towel. :D Supposedly the DFs are basically the same type towel as the CBT and I really am looking forward to having some quality towels for QDing and buffing.

I did a search and read nothing but good things about DF towels . I'm looking forward to checking these items out. :bounce

I spent $70 on high quality 100% cotton towels just last month and now have shelled out the equivalent for MFs.

go to sams club and buy the light blue 18 pack of hometex mf's (not to be confused with microtex). they are one of the best value for the money and they are very decent in quality. in fact... i just got done washing & qd'ed with them and they seem to hold up/stay plush after several washes with no marring/scratching. :up

I used to use the Absorber too. Still got it. I use it to clean my rims and the door jams. MF towels are definitely better than cotton or the Absorber, IMO. I like the 2-pack Microtex towels from Walmart best. Best bang for the buck, reasonably plush and they have yet to scratch or mar my black Acura!:)

It ensures that Zaino will look even better and last longer than if you use just any MF towels! Haven't you figured that out by now?!!:p

:hide: :o :nixweiss :hm

:doh Hmmm..Not quite sure what it ensures but since I like Zaino I guess I'm liking it. :D

Zaino's Seal of Approval didn't dictate my choice in towels however. There are a lot of aspects about the DF Towels that appealed to me. Seems they are highly regarded by many here and I liked that as well.

But I'm not ruling out conventional-type MFs though. I went to Pakshak's site and checked into some WWs but they are out of stock. Seems you guys bought them all up! :p

I'm thinking of buying a kit that contains a variety of MFs. Exceldetail has some excellent kits available for great prices so I'm thinking of going that route, that way I can try a bit of everything. Any recommendations of which MF kit can give me a little sample of everything?

I can see having a variety of MFs when all is said and done. I like the fact that there are so many different types available. I figure if an MF is high quality I can't go wrong. Besides, with 3 vehicles to keep clean one can never have too many towels.

I'm looking forward to getting the DF towels and checking them out. One can be stuck in the 20th century for only so long. :D

I use the DF towels for QD work but find they don't "grab" enough for polish removal to suit me. I really prefer the regular MF towels for polish work. BTW, the best MF I ever bought were from Yo Steve's - pricey at the time but still the best in my collection of around 50 or so MF's I use. I buy the really cheap MF for glass cleaning and find that they work best if you never use the "glass" towels for anything but glass and wash them seperately, not with any towels used for polish/wax.

Thanks for the replies. They helped.

I saw a reference to DF. Did not find it in the acronym list. Did a search for DF towels and guess I found a webpage for DF that is a brand of MF products. I found a page there discussing proper care of MF towels and that is below:

Proper Care of your Microfiber:

OUR #1 METHOD FOR CLEANING IS USING MICRO-RESTORE FOR DETERGENT WASHING

â€Â¢ The DF Concours Towel is woven of unique Alpine Microfiber. It is made entirely of natural materials, no artificial fibers of any kind are used in the weaving or sewing of this amazing product.

â€Â¢ It is easy to clean and with proper care will last a very long time.

â€Â¢ The first thing you should do when you get a new DF Concours Towel is to wash and dry it. During the manufacturing process the fabric has a tendency to become flat as it picks up contaminants from the air and machinery. There will also be a number of loose threads that, while they cause no harm, can be annoying the first time you use the towel.

â€Â¢ To clean the towel simply wash it in your washing machine using warm or hot water. If you use hot water the temperature should not exceed 150 degrees F.

â€Â¢ Always wash your towels separately from other fabrics. They have a tendency to pick up lint and other particles from other fabrics and the next time you use your towels this lint will transfer to the surface being cleaned, only making your job harder.

â€Â¢ ONLY USE LIQUID DETERGENTS SUCH AS MICRO-RESTORE, never use dry detergents as many times the granules do not fully dissolve and become trapped in the towel. This can cause scratching of the surface you are cleaning.

â€Â¢ NEVER USE BLEACH OR FABRIC SOFTENERS! You simply don't need them. Bleach will damage any fine fabric and fabric softeners deposit a chemical coating on the fabric that you really don't want to transfer to your car's finish or windows.

â€Â¢ Either air dry the towel on a clean line or in your clothes dryer using low heat. AVOID HIGH HEAT! High dryer temperatures wonâ€â„¢t damage the towel but can reduce the towel's life span. Also, don't use those toss in fabric softener towels, all they do is deposit chemicals on the fabric that will transfer off to whatever you are cleaning or polishing with the towel.

â€Â¢ If you wash your towels on a regular basis and don't let them get too dirty they will last much longer. As with any fine fabric dirt particles, grease, and other contaminants can cause the fibers to break down so regular cleaning will go a long way in preserving your towels.

â€Â¢ The more the towel is cleaned the fluffier and softer it will get.

â€Â¢ As you use the DF Concours Towel you will notice that sometimes a thread will loosen or pull out here or there. This is normal for terrycloth and you should NEVER PULL AT THE LOOSE THREAD! Pulling the thread can cause the weave to come undone or stitching to unravel. Instead, simply trim the thread with a pair of sharp scissors to about 1/4 of an inch from the surface, don't cut too closely. Think of it as giving your towel a haircut from time to time.
