MF vs. Foam applicator pad

Just curious as to how it's ok to use foam applicator pads to apply certain products to a cars finish. I was under the impression that only a good MF gives a decent change of not causing marring/swirls, etc... How does a foam pad not cause problems?

Thanks!

The foam and mf pad itself won't cause problem.. too much pressure combined with girts under the pad will cause problems... When you apply polish/wax with any pads the polish/wax is wet and so you won't get problems.. However buffing or polishing dry will turn the wax/polish into powdery residues...Combine the residues with excessive pressure and you'll get scratches

Right. Other than the stuff used for come cutting pad, most foams (esp. the kind used for "applicator pads") are functionally nonabrasive on most auto paints in-and-of themselves. In most cases (really soft paints can always be a wildcard), foam vs. MF is just personal preference.

Problem with mf is it's very absorbant...foam absorbs too but is less absorbant than mf...IME i use more product with MF so usually I use MF for polishing and foam for waxing... But that's just my opinion..Others may have different take
