Afternoon Everyone,

My shippment of MF towels from CMA has arrived along with other detailing goodies!

Other than cutting the tags off....do I need to wash the towels prior to using them?

I will be kicking my detailing experience up a notch this weekend with a full paint cleaning, followed by Megs #3 polish and topped off with Megs #26 wax.

I'm also going to try claying my windows to get some subborn bugs splatters off.

Thanks,

George

I would say to be safe that a hand wash of the towels wouldn't hurt. Some suggest that if you have the darker color MF's--that you should wash them to get any excessive color out first.

Let us know how the clay of the windows works out. Will be claying my car at end of month and was going to use the clay on the windshield.

Good Luck:xyxthumbs

You should definately wash the towels first! MF towels can easily pick up dirt and particles that can scratch your car. They aslo pick up pieces of fiber in the manufacturing process that will leave lint and streaks....if you dont want that then wash them for shure!!!

It is OK to machine wash and dry the towels, but DONT use fabric softener.....It cloggs the microfibers making them less effective.

I would suggest that it is much more important than cutting the tags off.

Always use clean microfiber when using it on your car.

Good Luck:up

I washed my JTI towels before using them, dawn in the washing machine with an extra rinse cycle. I use warm water, no fabric softeners or dryer sheets. I've had no problems putting my towels in the dryer. Low heat or no heat only.

Claying your car's glass works wonders! I clayed the glass and followed up with a coat of Z2 and they are smooth as, well glass! Just be careful of the condition the clay is in, if it has lots of dirt, flip it over or stretch and pull until you get a clean surface on the clay. You don't want to scratch the glass on the car.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wash and dry any new towel before use. Whether it is MF or Cotton or a blend any fabric picks up oils and dust particles as well as loose threads when it is woven or knitted.

HI, i know this may sound stupid but is an MF cloth a microfibre cloth, ie its got loads of sorta eye things like velcro, its not smooth like a duster, its sorta bobbly, if you know what i mean. Ive got 3 of these that i got for a pound each (less than a dollar) from a place i used to work at.

Waht do you use them for? is it for applying polish or what? any info or tips for use would be great.

This is a link to classic motoring accessories explanation of what MF is all about. Also--do a search of Autopia and you will get a ton of information. I am not sure if what you have is MF or not. If you want some, they can be purchased from several sites or individuals who sell them as a side business (like JT International).

I use my MF for everything--to wash, dry, dust, and remove polish and wax. Truly a great new product for auto detailing! Hope this helps and good luck:xyxthumbs

I have to plug MF towels and JT International here. I ordered 20 MF towels (Microtouch) and a waffle weave towel for drying from JT International. I just used my towels yesterday. In comparison to the MF towels I picked up at my local WalMart, the JTI towels were far superior. Much softer. I highly recommend you check out JT International for your cleaning needs. Great products. That waffle weave towel just soaked up the water.

Yes, I too have to give a big :up for JT International. Tom was great to work with and he has proven himself to be responsive to any questions or concerns with his products. I purchased five Mircro touch and five Ultrafine towels and one 16x24 waffle weave from him. Love them and now use the MF's I got a Bed Bath and Beyond for dusting furniture. I wish I had purchased more waffle weaves since they are really great for drying the car. Will be contacting Tom soon to place another order.
