MF towel experience dissapointing

I am new here and must say I love this forum. Everyone here is a detail nut like me! Anyway I've been reading a lot about microfiber towels and all the benefits it provides. I bought a MF towel about a month ago and have been dissapointed. I use the towel for drying purposes only and noticed it streeks the water across the car. It is a hoop weave. I can't get the car absolutly dry with this towel alone. I've read that the waffle weave MF towel has great reviews. For anyone who used this towel does it leave any water streeks? Or do you use this towel and finish up with a cotton? Thank you.

You never described what brand you used, how you used it, or whether you washed it first.

Run a search on MF towels and you'll see that there are MF's, and then there are MF's that are good enough for Autopians.

BTW, welcome.

Waffle-weave is definitely the way to go for drying a vehicle in terms of using a MF. My technique involves two steps and two products. I first blot with a synthetic chamois (P21S) and then wipe with the waffle-weave (MicrofiberTech). Takes a little more time but what's the rush. Zero streaking even on the glass sections. :wavey

Hey Gheavon,

A friend of mine doesn't like them also (except the waffleweave) as he feels they are bit to grabby. However, I love them.

One thing though, there's a definite difference between brands. Some of the cheaper version are much less plush and generally very poor quality.

Did you get them for either JT, Pakshak, CMA, Yosteve etc.???

Very very very few people ever have anything bad to say about those. I personally have only tried JT's and theiiiiiirrr grrrreeeeat!

You can also trying using 1 towel with one hand mainly for picking up the majority of the water and then a second with the other hand to pick-up and residual water that may remain behind.

With PakShak MF towels, I use one 24 x 24 to get most of the water and finish with one 16 x 16. On the van, I will sometimes need a second 16 x 16. No waffle weave, just regular MF towels. There really isn't a lot of water to remove if you rinse with the sheeting method.

PakShak=:up

gheaven- You're not the only one who can't get painted surfaces TOTALLY dry with a regular MF :nixweiss . The waffle-weave ones however, WILL completely dry the surface. I'd still get more than one, though, no matter which size WWMF you buy. And yes, they work better than 100% cotton, at least for me (and I was a hard sale).

You might try ones from Microfibertech- get a big blue one (or more, depending on the size of your vehicle) for the first pass and a smaller (and softer) gray one (or two) for the final touch-up.

CMA's Big Blue is also very good, as is the one from Griot's. I'm sure there are others, but I haven't tried them.

If this is a microfiber towel you picked up at an auto part store then I'm not suprised that it didn't get the job done. As far as drying your car goes then waffel weave is the way to go like everybody else said. There are a dozen different vendors you could go through online that have rave reviews on this board. The towels you got may be better suited for cleaning your windows or maybe just buffing off wax.

Microfiber comes in so many different quality grades that its not funny. I've got microfiber pants, coats and hats and I wouldn't suggest using them for detailing. Likewise, I've got a waffel weave microfiber towel that I use as a blanket. :) Its all good. You just gotta use it for what that particular weave was meant for.

Well I checked the brand of MF towel and it is a Mystic Maid. I don't know if anyone uses this brand because I don't hear it mentioned on this forum. As far as plushness its hard to compare but I can see through it. It is now my wheel cleaning towel.

Well I'm not familar with that brand, but if it's as thin as it sounds you really have got to order some towels from from one of the vendors mentioned here. You'll be glad you did. Well worth the money spent. I have some towels from Pakshak, Microfibertech and Yosteve and won't use anything else on my cars. Quality microfiber towels get a big :xyxthumbs

I have tried the JT International Waffle Weave and wasn't really impressed with it. I get much better results with the Pakshak 24 x 24 towel. I love these towels.

So much easier to use with the "Perfect Drying Technique".

YOU CAN SEE THROUGH IT??? :scared

Try using a leaf blower to dry the car first then a plush towel or waffle weave to finish the job.

You won't be dissapointed with many of the MF's that you hear about on Autopia. Just keep your eyes peeled for a group buy or a special promotion and buy a small amount to try.

Another vote for the Pakshak 24x24's!! :xyxthumbs

They're perfect for drying....using the YoSteve two-towel method! Guess I should buy some of his towels to show my gratitude. :D

I've been using Tom's big waffleweave towels since May and I think they're great. I like them so much I just bought 10 more. :xyxthumbs

I just tried the JT waffleweave 24x46 for the first time today after sheeting off the water. Didn't need to wring it out even once and it still didn't feel soaked at all! Probably could have still dried another half of a car.

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I think I will give MF another try. It seems there are a lot of good towels out there. I am going to order the grey waffle weave from Microfibertech. They say it is their softest one. In fact I'll order the detailing kit so I can try other towels too.

FWIW. I just received my 1st batch of MF towels from Mircofirbertech and love em.

I already have (had) a stash of CMA MF towels, and the MFtech towels are very comparable. I wouldn't hesitate a moment to use either brand for any application

gheaven,

I am familiar with the Mystic Maid microfiber towel. I have two. First, it is not a terry weave/loop towel as is discussed most often on this board. It is a fine towel, made in Japan but is better suited for drying dishes and fine glassware (ie. crystal) leaving them lint free. It is also great for mirrors.

For your automotive cleaning needs, follow the advice of others and contact anyone of the vendors mentioned for some terry weave cloths and you will be happy you did.

Good luck and welcome.

Mr. Clean,

I also have 1 MysticMaid MF towel that I bought late last year for $10 but never tested it until just recently. I am currently buying and testing every MF that has been mentioned on here. It is made in Japan for Clean Room semi-conductor applications, is 20X13 and is teal colored. It is a very fine tight spun (split) towel.

Under halogen and on a CD it is absolutely lintless (best of all the MF's that I have tested making it perfect for glass applications) and did NOT scratch a CD which surprised me because its not the usual soft microfiber that we all know. It has no nap and is best suited for glass/mirrors. I will test and use it on my beater car paint if winter ever ends here in the Northeast.
