MF rant....and polishing issues

for the third time this has happened to me, I am really starting to get pissed....



I polished up a this car, to a perfect swirl free section, only to go and wipe off the polish with my plush MF towel with some QD for ease of removal and it scratches the the section....then I cant get those scratches out for the life of me....



I worked on a little square section for a test section....polished with 83, came out looking really good, then I went to wipe it off and I can see it scratching it. I switch towels and it does the same thing, then I switch towels again and it still scratches. So i just wiped all the polish off and went at it again....except this time 4 passes of 83/IP didnt do anything to it, even with a burgandy pad. Then i tried 80 with a yellow polishing pad - nothing, theen 83 with a polishing pad - nothing....the scratches seem to be there and arent coming out....what the hell is going on....happened on my truck too.



What did I do wrong, what is up with my towels....I washed them with liquid tide, no bleach, and dried with no fabric softener.....I am currently washing those towels again, but this time with some other cleaner liquid and going to rinse twice....
 
I had this same problem and traced it back to faulty clear coat. It was only happening to the side of the car that was repainted and i called the body shop and they no longer use that clear because curing issues. It sucked.

Same here, paint was *really* soft, but my best MF towels would not mar--as long as the edges didn't touch it.



Are you sure the towels didn't get thrown on a table or shelf with crumbs, dust, etc?
 
you mentioned drying them.... can that cause the fibers to melt and harden? I feel like that has happened to me before to the few towels I dont air-dry, but I couldnt trace it back to the dryer for sure...

Excellent point I stopped drying mine as well. The wife hates seeing them all over the place but she lives.

Yeah, mine was really bad. No joke the clear was so soft a cotton ball dropped on the paint would of scratched it. :lol I thought it was the MF's at first and tried several new ones but then I realized it was only happening to the panels that where repainted.
 
I'd test the MFs on the data side of a CD, which is almost certainly softer than the paint in question. None of my good MFs will mar the CD.



I machine dry mine, no problems.



Also, I wouldn't let the polish dry on the panels before buffing it of (if this is what's being done). Meg's makes a big deal out of buffing the polish off before it dries.

I also machine dry at lowest temp above air fluff. Not a single problem and towels are definitely softer IMO than air drying. Remove from drier just prior to being fully dried. This helps in reducing static charge.



My MF suppliers: DF Towels, PakShak, ExcelDetail, MicroFiberTech, Danese, WCD and CMA. Not a bad one in the bunch (~120)
 
I purchased some DF towels myself. I like em! I used to just buy those cheapo 3 towels for $3.99 at Autozone Microfibers and threw em away when I was done, heh. Only did that once actually. But I bought some DF Towels and I like them. I purchased 2 so I could remove polish and then wax with a clean one, I love just sticking it in the washer, then dryer for a couple minutes and letting it air dry the rest of the way. Considering on DFTowel.com you can get a gigantic one for like $13 it's actually a really good price.
