MF Pads

Thanks. I want to test a cutting and a finishing pad for my Porter Cable. Just looking to compare shipping costs more than anything else.

You can also try Walmart. At certain Walmarts, they have the Meguiar's MF pads among other things from the professional line. You could pick those up locally. Certainly could save yourself some time. There's a list somewhere of all the Walmarts now carrying the Meg's stuff.

I found that Auto Detailing Solutions carries a 6 pack of Optimum MF pads for only $40. That is about $10 off buying them separate and their shipping is reasonable and I believe free over $150 and sometimes free shipping deals. Also they offer discount codes sometimes. Optimum MF pads are the best option out there right now IMO.

I like the quality of the Opt pads over my Meg's pads. Opt pads are rated for much higher RPM/OPM and are rotary friendly!

I'm going to go with Optimum pads when I need some new ones. I personally love Optimum products and want to compare them to my Meguiar's. I had two Meguiar's pads fail on me where the backing separated from the foam.

Optimum mf pad takes longer to get the same level of cut as meguiars mf. I tried them both side by side on a Aston Martin trunk.

Interesting...may I ask what compound/polish you were using? Did you compare both MF cutting and polish pads or just the cutting pads? And was the Aston Martin paint hard, medium or soft? I presume you were using a GG DA with 5" megs-5.25" Opt.pads.

Can you apply your LSP with the polishing pads???

jmsc - The Walmart in Bristol on Rte 6 carries them. No shipping - just the joy of paying CT state sales tax. I bought them yesterday and they had plenty of stock.

List of Walmart stores that carries the MF System:

M105/205 D300, Pads, Etc at Walmart? - Page 2

I was ready to place an online order for the Optimum pads. Since this is just a trial for me I may as well take a ride to rte 6. Thanks.

How do you like them compared to the foam pads?

Interesting, although I just bought quite a few Tuf Buf 5" and 6" black lamb's wool pads that cut harder than the MF anyway and I like to finish down with foam. I doubt I'll buy any MF anytime soon.

Yes both cut more then MF, but they leave a surface that requires more work to perfect. If I want more cut then MF, I'll go surbuf.

Dynabrade, both MFs are 6" cutting pads, approx 66% M101 and 33% D300 on each pad. I would say the paint is medium to hard. I worked them both the same amount of time, same machine speed and same pressure. It sort of makes sense the Megs MF pad would have more cut, as the foam on the optimum pad is thicker. A thicker pad will absorb more of the motion of a D/A, thus reducing the cut. I guess you should also consider the MF material as well. In my estimation I'd say that the Optimum MF pad removed 50% of the defects in the same time that the Megs MF removed 80%.

Makes sense...Thanks for your reply.

Bryan,

How do you clean your MF pads (Optimum ones)? I have been having a separation issue with mine and while working with them I use a brush supplied by ADS in their 6 pack to clean them. At the end of the day I soak them in MicroRestore and warm water and rinse with cold water and air dry. After cleaning they seem to separate as soon as I use them or if they get hot the glue seems to melt and separate. Not every pad is doing this but 6 pads so far have done this to me and it's my only negative on the Optimum pads for me. Upon further searching, I am not the only one with this problem but there are others out there who have not had this issue and even tried to heat up the pad to separate and no problems still...

Shawn, I have had one of my OPT cutting pads separate from me...the only one I've used from my 6-pack so far. I emailed Rick at ADS, and he said it is an issue that should be fixed in upcoming batches. I have a feeling I should use the other 5 soon, so if they fail I can get them all replaced at once.

He also recommended not cleaning with APC, although I've been cleaning my Meg's MF pads for over a year with APC+ and never had an issue with separation.

I wash all of my pads in the washer using a heavy duty cycle with micro restore. Have only used the optimum mf pad once.

same here! my first compounding pad from optimum separated.. I thought it was high-quality and rotary-friendly.
