MF not absorbing?

For some reason after I use my MF towels for the first time and I wash them they tend to not soak up water very well. Does anyone know the problem? I'm using the grey and white vroom towels from target.
 
What are you washing the towels with? How are you drying them? Are you using fabric softener?



You may want to try adding 1 spoon of vinegar per towel to your rinse cycle as well.
 
I'd bet money that it's the products that you are using to wash/dry your towels.



I've noticed that certain wash detergents make the towels non-absorbent. For me, Purex Free & Clear works great and does NOT effect the absorbency of the towels.



A few tips:

1 - Use a detergent that uses no dyes or perfumes (aka - Purex Free & Clear).

2 - Do NOT use any type of fabric softener.

3 - Do NOT was microfiber with any other types of fabric (cotton, etc.). It will create lint and the microfiber will attract it like a magnet.

4 - As kaval said, add a little vinegar to your rinse cycle.
 
I have been wiping down the dryer with apc or vinegar to be sure no fabric softener residue gets transferred to the towels.
 
Proper care is simple:

Wash after every use as soon as possible, don't let them sit for a week or two.

Use HOT water

Use liquid detergent, I recommend ERA

No bleach or fabric softeners

HOT dryer, no softener sheets (your towels will not melt)
 
Those Vroom towels are buffing towels, not drying towels (despite what they might claim on the packaging). Though I must admit, all micorfibers eventually loose some absorbancy no matter how you care for them.
 
A MOL member, dftowel (Leo), who seems to know a lot about microfiber towels, recommends the following:

After reading Leo's instructions, I have started to use hot water fearlessly. :)
