MF drying towels

How often should MF drying towels be washed? Am I being paranoid by washing them after every time I dry a car even if they look clean? I would think that after drying a car there would be microscopic particles left behind that could scratch.

I don't think you're being paranoid, you're being smart. Why risk using a contaminated towel if you can wash it first.

Use one of the new products made for washing MF's, run them through an extra rinse and both you and your towels will be happy. And never, ever use bleach or fabric softner (either in the wash or as a dryer sheet).

Edit: and don't make the mistake I did a few years ago and wash them with anything else.

I've been asking myself this question too. I've come to the conclusion I can dry the car AT LEAST twice with safety before rewashing the two drying towels I use. I hang the towels neatly on a hanger after use. When they're dry, I snap them several times in hopes I can jar loose any gritty stuff that may be present. I'll be putting these two "dirty" drying towels to work again this weekend. Call me stupid; but I'm curious. I'll be watching for even the slightest micro-marring in very revealing light.

Laundering towels frequently is more costly than people realize, I think. I'd rather spend the money on detailing products, like the aggressive polishes I'll need to get rid of the giant gouges left in my paint by dirty drying towels. LOL!!

I've used the same drying towel over again also, but after the first use I always rinsed it out real well, and also "snapped" them before use.

Just seems like as my MF collection has grown I have the luxury of having enough clean ones around w/o having to wash nearly as often.

The last car show I went to I'm sure the hotel maid wondered about the sheepskin wash mitt and the three or four MF's I had hanging on the shower rod to dry after I rinsed them out :nixweiss

Hehe.....I'll bet hotel maids see some fairly strange things on a regular basis. She probably thought you were just a fanatic for personal hygiene. Did she leave you extra towels and wash cloths after that?
